He was a "Robert Kennedy DemocRAT!"
Might as well be now - the timing is perfect. From now on, a hundred days into an "Administration" will have an entirely-new meaning.
Absolutely he was a republican. In the same mold as Guilliani, McCain, and Romney.
He was never a conservative.
I’ve been listening to their argument for years on end; that we are stronger with the liberal RINOs on the team, and every year they undermine our ideals and goals.
How long are we supposed to compromise our beliefs?
Who cares about a big tent if they keep sneaking out to vote with the dems?
I think its time to stand up for the soul of this party.
Time for you to go Olympia Snowe
“Olympia Snowe: We Didnt Have to Lose Arlen Specter”
I know. But we were just lucky I guess :)
I also love how Mrs. Snowe is whining about the need for “diversity” of viewpoints in the GOP. Why is it that no one ever makes the same complaint about the Dems?
Arlen left because he was going to lose to Toomey, and Snowe turns it into a screed about the mean, conservatives in the Republican Party. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out Olympia. You and your ilk are the reason the Republican Party and America lost in 06 and 08. If the Republican Party had stood firm upon its conservative virtues and values, making America better, the Republicans would have their filibuster proof majority, minus a few RINOs like yourself who would rather play ball with the leftist. Name one major Democratic objective that you don’t support. Name the last time you penned a screed against Democrats. Can’t think of anything? That’s why Republicans don’t need you.
Yup... unlike with Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords, who jumped because he felt “slighted” by Bush and other members of the GOP caucus, Specter jumped ship for no other reason that that he did not want to face the verdict of Republican voters. Is the implicit RINO threat now “you better support me for re-election, or I’ll switch!”?
She has obviously interned for Lindsay Graham.
We didn’t have to lose him, we wanted to lose him. That was his message today...he switched parties because he saw the writing on the walls and realized he was going to lose because the people who gave him his career were done with his treachery. The democrats deserve him and damn them for the damage they are going to cause this country with their super majority. I have gotten to the point where I wish for it, because I know it will hurt them as well. I can take it, but those bastards can’t.
That you can't trust RINO traitors? No, but we're learning fast and you're one of them.
This piece of Snowe’s makes no sense because she completely overlooks two very simple facts:
1) The GOP did not “move to the right” in recent years, it moved to the left. This is one of those bald-faced lies that the NYT would never ever notice because they never look skeptically at any statement that makes them feel satisfied and superior no matter how implausible it is.
2) The Republican party establishment (RNCC and W) SUPPORTED Arlen Specter, the ones who drove him out were the VOTERS. Why doesn’t Snowe criticize them?
She’s not as stupid as Patty Murray and Barbara Boxer, but she’s still stupid.
Sure we did Oly
TEA PARTIERS 1 RULING CLASS ELITES 0
Go...Go Ms. Snowe...so you can tell your grandchildren that you were part of the cabal that destroyed America..GO..I DARE YOU.
Olympia why don’t you get lost?
Could we have Stalin, Hitler, Mao and Castro too???
It’s appauling that Specter decided to blame this on the pary, the “Far Right” as he put it, knowing that it wouldn’t want to run him in the general election because he’s a political two-face and part of the very reason we’ve been losing.
I heard a discussion regarding this with Lindsey Grahm on Fox News this afternoon that disturbed me. He was debasing the party for chasing Specter off, saying that we’ve become too focused on the 20% of the time that some Republicans vote with Democrats.
I suppose he doesn’t get that it’s isn’t about raw totals of how much one votes with the party, but what they vote with Democrats on that is at issue. It’s too much spending, too many entitlements, too many subsidies, too much corrpution. If any Republican politician votes for that stuff they should be tarred, feathered, and ran out of town.
Cheers to the Pensylvania GOP for getting this loser out of our hair.
and take Susan Collins with you.
Well said. PA can finish the job in 11/10.
