I needed three.
The news managed to find groups of Iraq veterns that were calling for evacuation, and clueless Cindy Sheenan was made a hero.
The so called conservative talk radio (Hannity, Levin)focused mainly on Iraq and other military issues. They were pretty clueless on economic issues except to call democrats socialists.
After GWB safe re-election 2004 when govt spending climbed each year these talk show hosts rallied their audience in a hypothetical myth that they wanted to believe. That myth was that GWB did good on tax cuts and military/homeland security spending (at the same time) BUT should have veto-ed his own domestic spending bills. The fantasy was that America would rally around GWB as tax cuts “paid for” military spending, and maybe some spending cuts would help too and the economy would grow (and military) with limited social spending government.
Bush and Cheney and Rove knew that telling the voters that they or their kids must pay to build schools in Iraq then, but not their own kids schools federally funded would not have the effect that Hannity and Levin claim. There is no way the public would buy this, especially after the sales pitch given for the invasion turned out not to be true.
Bush was in a lose-lose. More spending/less spending, let the home loan bubble grow, or blow it up early before it got to big. Given lose-lose he chose the policies he did and it looks pretty ugly now.
