Kevin Brady to host Health Care Townhall metting.

Congressman Kevin Brady is holding a “Come Get the Scoop on Healthcare” townhall this Wednesday, August 26, at 6:00pm at the Conroe Tower, at 300 West Davis, 6th floor. This meeting is open to the public, however the rumor is that there will be an organized group of Democratic Supporters of the Proposed Healthcare Bill in attendance with the intent to disrupt the meeting. Let’s get the word out to those who oppose the socialist Healthcare plan. Please arrive early .

As you prepare to go, here is a good memo with the instructions given by moveOn.org to its member who go to Townhalls: Getting Our Message Out This August

The majority of Americans are with us on the need to address the crises our country is facing. Unfortunately, a vocal minority has been attempting to hijack and disrupt town hall meetings between representatives of Congress and their constituents. That’s why constituents like us need to show up, make our points clearly and calmly, and be counted among the majority of Americans who are standing up for change. When you go to an event, be sure to stay grounded in your message and goals. Don’t react or allow yourself to be thrown off. Responding to disrupters allows them to frame the issue. Stay calm, and stick to your core message.

Here are some key tips to help you be prepared for an event: ??Bring more people than the other side has. Recruit! Recruit! Recruit! It should be obvious to everyone—including press—that you represent the majority. This is crucial. Ask your friends and family to come with you! ??Arrive early—two hours ahead if you can—and claim the best spots for visibility and signs. Get familiar with the venue beforehand, and make a staging plan. ??Ask questions and make comments early in the event. The first few question?askers set the tone for the whole event—so don’t be shy! Be proactive about getting in line to speak. ??Be visible. Bring signs and leaflets, and whenever possible, post your signs all over the place so that you stand out. Encourage others to hold signs in every place where a TV camera is likely to be so that next to every right?wing sign, there’s one of your signs with your message. ??Stay calm and avoid confrontation. Avoid feeding into the hostile atmosphere that right?wing disrupters are attempting to create. Stay cool and calm even if the room becomes tense or confrontational, be respectful, and remember to speak from your heart about these issues. ??Be on the lookout for reporters. Check with your local MoveOn Council to see if there’s a media coordinator at the event—and direct any reporters towards that person. If you end up talking to a reporter, and they ask questions that focus on right?wing disruptions, don’t take the bait—bridge to talk about the issues! Above all, stick to your prepared message and don’t be reactive to attempted disruptions. Our job is to make sure the issues are the story. When the story is about the issues, we win. And remember: This orchestrated right?wing turnout is only happening because we are moving toward historic progressive changes. We stand for the mainstream, majority position. Let’s keep moving forward to solve the problems of our time! If you have questions, email augustrecess@moveon.org for support.

I believe that Kevin Brady is scheduled to host an “Ice Cream Special” (aka town hall meeting??) the next following week in Splendora at the volunteer fire department. I’ll check on the date and time and report it back here shortly.

The Conroe Tower is evidently also known as the Conroe City Hall bldg, for those who might be unfamiliar with Conroe. And since the City of Conroe doesn't seem to have any maps or directions on their site for their location, I scrounged this up via googlemaps & yahoo:

The "tower" (lol, Conroe is so sweet - not for long tho', it's growing by leaps & bounds) seems to be between W Phillips, N Thompson, N San Jac & W Davis. Anybody else here know if that's correct? If it isn't I will yank this graphic & redo it. Also, if anybody here has suggestions for parking & nearby restaurants which might be fun to check out afterwards, I'm sure that would be much appreciated amongst those of us in Rio Linda, TX as well.

So you’re making fun of the 5 story tower? Or is it six sotries? LOL!

Pappa’s on the lake is about 10-15 minutes away, west on 105.

There are various chains along I-45 and a Ryan’s buffet just west of I-45 on 336 loop.

Awww, but we can eat in chains anywhere. I was hoping somebody might have a suggestion for a place serving authentic native Conrovian fare so the more adventurous among us can sample the exotic local delicacies - blackened pine cones, perhaps? ;-)

Hmmm. Speaking of which: Are Conroe Texans Conrovians? Conroeites? What?

It is also where the Montgomery County Republican party holds it’s organizational meetings on the top floor.

I’m not sure I can consider Conroe a real restaurant town but if you go west on 105 (aka Davis) about 5 minutes west of I-45 there is a local place on the left side (south side) of 105. Good food, lots of tables I like and if you leave hungry it is you’re own darn fault.

Veron’s Kuntry Katfish

What are residents of Conroe called?

Either Rednecks or Commuters.

My Brooks Bros. suit is at the cleaners, but I plan to attend anyway.
Unfortunately, the blackened pine cones are out of season. Vernon’s Kuntry Catfish is a good choice for catfish and hushpuppies. I’m partial to Margarita’s for Mexican food, off of 336 east of I-45.
