The federal appeals court ruling against the government Wednesday in the long running Major League Baseball drug-testing case has several far-reaching ramifications.
The decision means that leaking the names of steroid-tainted players to Sports Illustrated and The New York Times likely constituted crimes, and that an investigation could be launched to identify the leakers. It also means that the blockbuster revelations about steroid cheating by Alex Rodriguez(notes), Sammy Sosa(notes), Manny Ramirez(notes) and David Ortiz(notes) were based on evidence gathered in an illegal search by lead BALCO investigating agent Jeff Novitzky.
Unless the Ninth Circuit decision is successfully appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court a long shot according to legal experts the ruling means that in 2004 the government acted irresponsibly by seizing the records of anyone other than the 10 players under investigation on the original warrant in the BALCO case.

0bama Ball.
Bush’s fault!
Whether or not the players deserve to have good reputations, they had their reputations severely damaged by the government’s criminal actions.
No matter what happens to the prosecutor who leaked the info, Ramirez, A-Rod, et al, will never regain their reputations.
My guess is that somebody somewhere has to be looking at this as a leak investigation.
So, does 0bama investigate the leaks and possibly indict a Bushie or does he ignore it so that the leaks he wants to make in the future don't get any scrutiny, either?
I wonder what Babe Ruth used instead of steroids.
I’m actually serious. I hate the way all ballplayers are treated now because of the suspicions.
Beer and hotdogs. Maris and Aaron = cigarettes and coca-cola and possibly greenies.
Amen, Chief. I heard he smoked like a chimney. He lived it up and why not? Why is it anyone else’s business... unless a girl starts looking like a guy and vice-versa.
Maris had to be taking greenies. Don’t recall if Maris was mentioned or not in Ball Four.
They break all the time. America’s game ain’t what it used ta be... *sigh*... I’m still hooked, though.
Ball Four, that was a great book. What a character Bouton was.
I can’t say I’m hooked anymore. Haven’t been to a ballpark in years now. Not as many players that you can root for. There are some good pitchers out there—Lincecum, Verlander-—that are fun to watch. My Yankees are obviously quite watchable this year. Texiera is a great player. But, you know what you say about guy’s like Tex these days—I hope he’s clean.
Brain malfunction.
That’s what I expect them to be saying about Ethier any minute now.

I'm sick to death that the full list of hasn't been released. The reason why is MLB is trying to protect whats left of their image as "Americas pastime" thats been run through the mud by these cheating Aholes and MLB trying to sweep it all under the rug. And everyone wants to live in fantasyland that these are just isolated incidents because the truth is too ugly for many to face.
MLB salaries have increased by over 600% over the past 20 years. Mostly on the back of performance drugs, not on their natural abilities. And even though they finally passed a league ban on them, juicers like Ramirez are still trying to find ways and science to mask it. He just got busted for this crap this past spring.
A-rod has been knicknamed "Cat Tits" by other players because when he arrives for spring training, his chest muscles are all screwed up from all the roids & growth hormone drugs he's been on during the offseason, and then the drugs he takes to quickly rebalance his hormones by March. Cat Tits is currently paid over 20 million a year.
Not a single player caught juicing should enter cooperstown. And that's not even going to hurt them all that much because most of them are only in it for the money and rockstar lifesytle. But it would still be a symbolic victory. But they should also be banned from MLB for life. That will hit these overpaid juicers right were it hurts, in the ego and wallet.
Heard an interview a while back with a black player who played in the Negro League before being allowed to play in the MBL. He was an old man then and has since died, but he maintained that had steroids been readily available in his day, lots of players would have used them.
I heard that, ‘spirit. The Babe reputedly played often with a heavy hangover.
