Health care protest targets insurer UnitedHealth

Six demonstrators were arrested Monday morning at UnitedHealth Group's corporate headquarters in Minnetonka after they blocked the doors and refused to leave during a protest over health care reform. About 110 protesters sang and spoke about the need to change the way health care is organized and financed in the United States, and said that insurers such as UnitedHealth are making people sicker because the system doesn't offer proper coverage for many patients. They cited what they said is UnitedHealth's practice of "denying care and claims in order to generate record profits." The demonstration was organized by a group called Health Care for America Now in Minnesota, a coalition of labor unions, faith groups and activist organizations, including Education Minnesota, the AFL-CIO and Isaiah, a social justice group that includes more than 60 congregations.

Did a search and didn't see this posted yet. I went to this group's website, and see that they're affiliated with the worst of the worst: Moveon.org, La Raza, AFL-CIO, etc. Talk about astroturf...

I am certain this will garner more press coverage than the 9/12 March on Washington.

We had United for a year and it was awful. My primary care physician won’t accept even it.

So, Soros and/or SEIU only sent them enough money to charter two buses.

Funny that SEIU isn’t mentioned because this is they way they work.
They took over United Healthcare West in CA the same way.

Another embarrassment for my state. Thirty-five years ago (plus or minus several) our own Fritz Mondale thought something he called “Health Management Organizations” (or sometimes “H Maintenance Os”) would do wonders for health care in America. Yep. Our Progressive-In-(Local)-Chief started the HMO fiasco. We’re sorry, America. You get to say, “You sure are!”

If an insurer slow walks or refuses to settle payments before a specific time it is illegal. State gov’ts do a substandard job of watching over this industry, relying instead on public vigilance with their health care service, which rarely happens since the general public is not familiar with all the rules (god it will get a billion times worse under obama-uncare). If an insurer is aware of illegal practices within his/her contract, he/she may pursue legal action (wonder if that’s the case when the feds take over). BTW, I use UnitedHealth’s subsidiary American. It sucks. If someone wishes to exercise their constitutional right to protest UnitedHealth lawfully, I will not deter them just as long as they don’t deter me from protesting.

My bad—when I said “insurer is aware of illegal practices within his/her contract...” I meant to say “insured is aware...”

The author of the bill that created HMO’s was Ted Kennedy.

GE recently informed their employees that in January 2010 their new insurance will be with United Health Care. From looking at the plans, it appears to contain to some elements of Obamacare. No connection there, I’m sure. /sarc

Depends on the plan.

I have one of those "Cadillac plans", negotiated by the U.A.W. and it sucks.

I know it’s politically incorrect to say it here, but there is something seriously wrong with the way health insurance companies operate these days.
