Back in 2007, the National Intelligence Estimate was released which all but absolved Iran of suspicions that it was on course to develop nuclear weapons

It did no such thing, that was only the spin placed upon it by the democrat/socialist media. What it did say quite clearly was that Iran could build a nuclear weapon within 2-5 years, a window we are now entering.

This N.I.E. actually was narrowly focused on the issue of Iran's apparent intention to produce nuclear (or atomic) weapons. The assessment actually was misread to mean Iran's overall intent whereas the assessment actually essentially said that Iran at that time did not intend to take the final step of weaponizing their nuclear capability.

That is, the authors were saying that Iran was, at that time, pausing before taking the final step; not abandoning the overall process. They were, nevertheless, wrong.
