Cold temperatures threaten seed potato crop

BOZEMAN - Record-low temperatures in southwestern Idaho are threatening to destroy at least a portion of this season's crop of seed potatoes.
Spuds still in the ground could be saved by a layer of snow; a dusting had fallen on Bozeman and the surrounding region by Sunday.

The Wyoming and Montana sugar beet harvest is also threatened. It was 4 degrees in my future hometown last night.

More per bushel this year for our farmers. :) Great!
About 50-60 years ago, my neighbor's father raised about 17 tons of potatoes per year on an upper field--now dry pasture-- on our east 160.
Oh, wait! I don't have a farm tractor & plow; nor a potato harvester; nor contracts; nor a storage building; nor 6 or 8 strapping sons & nephews to do the work; and the spring dried up, and....
