I come in a world of Iron, to make a world of Gold (Vanity)

If you ever get a chance to rent this particular version of the “Man of La Mancha” from 1972 staring Peter O’Toole and Sophia Loren I strongly encourage you to do so. It is both breath taking and heart breaking. I think you will find this unlike any version of this you have ever seen.

The filthy rag Don Quixote picks up at the beginning is a dirty dish rag that she (Aldonza) threw at him earlier. Don Quixote considers it beautiful like gossamer (a gauze or silk fabric of the very finest texture). Don Quixote refers to Aldonza (a harsh and unflattering name) by the name "Dulcinea", a very beautiful and elegant name. Although she is a prostitute he see’s her as pure and beautiful. She is indeed a new creation although she cannot believe it yet.

It’s an incredible metaphor of how our Heavenly Father views us through the shed blood of his Son Jesus Christ on the cross if we only but ask for forgiveness. If you are not a believer, still watch the clip, you will find it very moving nonetheless.

I can only take about 3 minutes of Peter O’Toole before my gag reflex starts kicking in.
