Lou Dobbs mulls White House bid (Ross Perot redux?)
Politico ^ | 11/24/2009 | Alexander Burns

Former CNN host Lou Dobbs fueled already rampant speculation about his political future Monday, sending the clearest signals yet that he's mulling a bid for president — and leaving third-party political operatives salivating over the possibility of a celebrity recruit for the 2012 campaign.

Less than two weeks after announcing his departure from the cable network — and after a series of interviews in which Dobbs encouraged speculation about his political plans — the anchorman known to fans as "Mr. Independent" finally made his presidential ambitions explicit on former Sen. Fred Thompson's radio show Monday.

Asked if he might make a run at the White House in 2012, Dobbs answered flatly: "Yes is the answer."

"I'm going to be talking some more with some folks who want me to listen in the next few weeks," Dobbs told Thompson. "Right now I'm fortunate to have a number of wonderful options."

Dobbs's political future, however, remains shrouded in question marks. He has left open a variety of paths to public office — in addition to toying with a presidential campaign, Dobbs hasn't ruled out a bid for the Senate in 2012 in New Jersey — and also left his party affiliation a mystery.

Geez...if Dobbs were to run, it would be as an independent.

Hey Lou, if you want Barry Zero to have another 4 years, go right ahead.

Why do people think they can just get up one day and announce they can run for President? It is insane. He should retire with dignity. Who would vote for him???? I mean seriously...he was a commentator on a TV show...that is not qualified in my book....yes I know only 35 years old and born here...it does seem that we have lowered our standards for President to about that now a days.

Yup, if Dobbs runs Zero wins. It will be 1992 all over again, only worse with the communonazi at the helm.

Do us a favor Dobbs, keep hammering the socialists on the sidelines and support Sarah Palin for prez.

Delusions of grandeur?

Go with FOX business, and leave the big stuff to the Conservatives, or try for a congressman's seat first.

All Ross Perot accomplished was to elect the Sink Emperor. Twice.

What this means is that the Republican candidate will need to be able to articulate a coherent view on immigration reform. Otherwise, it will be Perot redux.

Third-party candidates only work when they are better at articulating the core beliefs of the party members than the party candidate (re: Perot '92 and Nader '00, as opposed to Anderson '80).

Dobbs always comes across to me as someone trying to say something but he is never able to find the right words.

I am no fan.

Lou, don’t run.

Dobbs: a one issue dumbass with LESS money, LESS sense, and LESS charisma (!) than Ross Perot.

He won’t even get out of the gate.

We do need a 3rd Party—a real 3rd party that would be more than an ego trip. Times are not the same—people are looking for real reform—conservative reforms. We can not trust the GOP/RINO Party. The way they treated Sarah Palin was a disgrace. The third party might be a reformation of the GOP but I think its so far gone it can not be saved. In this Glen Beck is right.

All Ross Perot accomplished was to elect the Sink Emperor. Twice.

All Dobbs will accomplish is make us miss Ross Perot, if that's possible.

he’s presumptious. He’s like those actors from holywood who play acting as president and presume to think, how hard could it be, maybe I should run for president
