WASHINGTON — The brazen reality TV hopefuls who managed to crash the White House state dinner earlier this week may face criminal charges, the Secret Service said today.

Secret Service spokesman Jim Mackin says the agency is moving closer to beginning a criminal investigation. He says that’s one reason the Secret Service hasn’t yet explained what happened when Michaele and Tareq Salahi arrived at the security checkpoint Tuesday for the dinner honoring Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Mackin says there’s less the Secret Service can say as the probe moves closer to a criminal investigation. He says the agency isn’t leaving any options off the table at this point.

Secret Service agents went to the the Oasis Winery in Hume, Virginia, which the Salahis own, a person who works there confirmed to The Post.

supply side economics: if there is a supply (reality shows) there will be a demand (idiots doing idiotic things for 15 minutes of fame).

perverse-incentives alert.

They are going to prosecute them? For what? They were the ones who didn’t stop them from just walking in like they owned the place.

These two didn’t do anything criminal except perhaps trespass and even then if it wasn’t correctly posted how can they make that stick?

There’s a lot of CYA and finger pointing going on, don’t take it out on them for YOU letting a couple just walk up and shake Biden’s hand.

HA!

An important distinction. As useless as they are, they're nobility in comparison.

Much of what is done in the name of homeland security doesn't make any of us secure at all. Obviously, whatever we do isn't working if two people can crash a state dinner.

Imagine if they were terrorists with a bomb or sumptin.

These are non-Muslim white folks....

Let's not jump to any conclusions.

This is about protecting Obama...not those ordinary folks at Fort Hood.

Like the FBI is going to squeal on itself...Whoever is running the FBI should submit their resignation...

Whomever was in charge of security should be facing charges; let these people go on with their socialite life. They should have never reached the White House grounds, this was a breakdown in security.

But no, we’ll prosecute the glamour-seekers to hide the failings of security!

ROFLOL, yes the steel fence and the millions of security cameras and guards with dogs and guns, were not enough warning. "Correctly posted", LOL, Good One!!!

All of that means nothing in the way the laws are written.

They are very specific for posting trespassing warnings, fences, guns, dogs don’t mean anything if you walk right by them. Believe me, I own a lake and unless it is posted exactly like the law says then they can’t arrest anyone for it, at least here they can’t. It’s why I have to replace the signs a couple times a year, once someone tears them down at night I can’t prosecute.

“well that IS the BEST thing you can say about them!”

But that is enough. They are not trying to rob or control me, you or our families. Probably productive citizens.
