Islanders Blocked in Bid for Tough Climate Action (Now a 4 degree rise in temps are ok?)
ABC ^ | 12/9/2009 | CHARLES J. HANLEY

Declaring "it's a matter of survival," one of the world's tiniest nations, speaking for imperiled islands everywhere, took on global industrial and oil powers Wednesday at the U.N. climate conference — and lost.

"Madam President, the world is watching us. The time for procrastination is over," Ian Fry, delegate of the mid-Pacific state of Tuvalu, declared as he asked the full conference for more aggressive curbing of greenhouse gas emissions than is being considered.

The rejection illustrates the rich-poor divide that overshadows the conference, a reality that has already led some islands to consider evacuation should international action on climate ultimately fall short.

Specifically, Tuvalu asked to amend the 1992 U.N. climate treaty to require sharp reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, deeper than major powers are considering.

The amendment would have obliged the world's nations to keep global warming — the rise in temperatures accompanied by rising seas — to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels. That's just 0.75 degrees C (1.35 degrees F) higher than the increase to this point. Rich countries are aiming for emissions cuts that would limit warming to 2 degrees C (3.6 degrees F).

We were told that a rise by 1 degree is disaster but now the Global Warming Community is ready to accept 4 degrees. The scam is falling apart.

This is a total joke. These idiots are now talking like they can simply adjust a thermostat for the proper temperature of the world.

From what I understand, the Tuvalu islanders are a bunch of scam artists who want to be put on International Welfare. The whole story about the water rising there is a big fake.

See the article posted here earlier: “Rise of sea levels is ‘the greatest lie ever told.’”

No evidence Pacific rising to engulf Tuvalu, scientists say

AUCKLAND (AFP) Mar 27, 2002 The continued existence of the Pacific nation of Tuvalu is not threatened as the Pacific Ocean is not rising, a regional scientific study revealed Wednesday. Tuvalu, north of Fiji, claims it is sinking under rising sea-levels which have resulted from global warming.

Last month Tuvalu told the Commonwealth Heads of Government summit in Australia that it was planning to take western nations to international courts to sue them for their failure to curb so-called greenhouse gases.

But Australias National Tidal Facility (NTF) at Flinders University in South Australia, which is contracted under Australian aid to monitor sea levels across the Pacific, said in a statement that it had seen no significant rise.

NTF have had a sophisticated tidal gauge on Funafuti, Tuvalu’s capital, since 1993 measuring the rise and fall of the sea level.

“As at February 2002, based on short term sea level rise analyses ... for the nearly nine years of data return show a rate plus 0.9 millimetresinch) per year,” the statement said.

They also examined the historical record going back to 1978 which indicated a sea level rise since then of 0.07 mm (0.002 inch).

“The historical record shows no visual evidence of any acceleration in sea level trends.”

Has there been ANY sea level rise? It seems like if there were, low-lying countries with historical related problems (Bangladesh and the Netherlands) would be screaming bloody murder by now, and I’m not hearing a peep.

This is all by design and it’s absolute BS manipulation.

The UN tells a relatively poorly educated island nation that sea levels are rising because of CO2 from rich nations. The UN tells them that their homes, culture, and way of life will be destroyed and that they’ll have to move off said island.

Natives get angry.

Europeans and liberals feel bad so they throw money at them.

The fat welfare slobs on Tuvalu have been begging New Zealand for huts on the beach, free fried chicken and free beer for years.

Truth is that the Tuvalu residents have used up the island resources and need a UN sugar daddy to continue their welfare life-style. New Zealand is the target.

So, take all 12,000 of them and settle them in Detroit. They can all buy a house for $1.

http://www.americanthinker.com/2007/02/whos_afraid_of_global_warming.html

“It developed that Tuvalu’s beach erosion was caused by overbuilding. Putting too many houses on a beach upsets shoreline dynamics, literally pushing sand out to sea (the same phenomenon can be found all up and down the New Jersey shore). Tuvalu has not been evacuated and, if its web site http:// (in 2007) can be trusted, has just elected a new prime minister.”
