IT WAS just after midnight. Brian Westberry and a woman friend sat frozen in his bedroom, hoping the persistent pounding on the front door of his Northeast Philly home would stop. It didn't.
Westberry, 24, slipped his licensed .38-caliber revolver into his pants pocket and crept downstairs to open the door.
There stood Gregory Cujdik, 32, who demanded to see "Jen," his girlfriend. Westberry told him "Jen" didn't want to see him, and repeatedly ordered Cujdik to leave. When Cujdik refused, Westberry threatened to call police.
" 'Do it. My family are cops,' " Cujdik said, according to Westberry.

This comes as a surprise?
Of course they get preferential treatment, cops take care of cops and by extension their kin, first, last and always.
I have personal knowledge that this is true.

So, let me ask. Are we pro law and order (the concept, not the TV show)? Anti-L&O?
By “we” I mean Conservatives. Most Conservatives I know (including me, whom I know well as well) support cops and generally think they are doing good work and are honest and hard-working in a difficult situation.
But every time I post something that suggests we should give the cops the benefit of the doubt, I am painted as a tool of the jack-booted government militia.
If I am wrong for respecting police, then I would just like to know how we are “leaning.” This isn’t groupthink, it is trying to integrate perspectives into our overall movement.
Maybe that we can ping Jim Thompson guy for his thoughts ;)
Typical Northeast Philly White Trash. Nothing to see here, folks.
We had a scumbag kid in my hometown who used to spray graffiti, vandalize streetlamps, and regularly assault other neighborhood kids. Of course, he was never punished, as daddy was a Looey on the local constabulary. This is purely anecdotal of course.
it’s philly.
Cops are supposed to represent law and order, but that is not the reality. They are government employees and union members. They CAN abuse thier authority, and since they are human, they often DO abuse their authority. This has led to a culture of corruption where most cops are corrupt.
Besides, we are more pro-Freedom than pro Law and Order. (Stalin, Hitler and Mao were all pro Law and Order.)
Serious, serious problem. Between fake LEO and bad LEO it’s getting to a tipping point.
Always have and always will. Cops can literally get away with murder.
Same thing happens to me...I don't get it, either, unless there are nihilists in the crowd who think they are practicing something close to libertarian style conservatism...
I think actually conservatives are pro RULE OF LAW. That is a different matter than law and order. The rule of law may not be as orderly as some would like.
Since we are pro rule of law, we are necessarily anti rule of men. That is we don’t favor cops looking out for their own any more than we favor any group of criminals looking out for their own.
Same here, I will shut up now.
Being Pro or anti police is not the question. Being anti police supports a world view of anarchy. I desire a certain level of order, but I also recognize when the powers that are intended to defend are used to manipulate and antagonize. Any good cop would be sick reading this, as am I.
For your own safety, DO NOT EVER OPEN YOUR DOOR to someone hostile to you.
That’s why America was so successful as a Christian country. God comes before family. God, family, country.
It’s always nice to have a Christian cop on the scene.
What a horrible story.
It’s good to see the paper picking it up, and I hope there are some consequences for this dept.
I had a friend go through this herself, and she actually moved because her children were threatened, although she wanted to see it through and the police prosecuted. She did a lot of heavy praying about it and was gratified later to see them all indicted over another abuse.
Awful sounding story. Amazing that they didn’t even interview the supposed “victim” until the press got wind of things. Then again this is Philly and nothing in that town would surprise me. It isn’t exactly known for good governance and clean cops.
“Eight days later, on April 13, Westberry was surprised to see Eberhart and two special agents with the state Attorney General’s Gun Violence Task Force at his front door.
They asked to see his guns.
An avid gun collector, Westberry had 40 guns, all legal, all registered and all locked up.
“I’m thinking they just want to verify the serial numbers, verify that everything I own is legit,” Westberry said.
But they confiscated his guns and said that they had a warrant for his arrest.”
