The global warming jamboree in Copenhagen was surely the most outlandish foray into intellectual fantasizing since the fourth-century Christian bishops assembled in 325 AD for the Council of Nicaea to debate whether God the Father was supreme or had to share equal status in the pecking order of eternity with his Son and the Holy Ghost.
Shortly before the Copenhagen summit, the proponents of anthropogenic global warming (AGW) were embarrassed by a whistleblower who put on the Web more than a thousand e-mails either sent from or received at the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit, headed by Dr. Phil Jones. The CRU was founded in 1971 with funding from sources including Shell and British Petroleum. It became one of the climate-modeling grant mills supplying tainted data from which the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has concocted its reports.
Deceitful manipulation of data, concealment or straightforward destruction of inconvenient evidence, vindictive conspiracies to silence critics, are par for the course in all scientific debate. But in displaying all these characteristics, the CRU e-mails graphically undermine the claim of the Warmers that they command the moral as well as scientific high ground. It has been a standard ploy of the Warmers to revile the skeptics as whores of the energy industry, swaddled in munificent grants and with large personal stakes in discrediting AGW. Actually, the precise opposite is true. Billions in funding and research grants sluice into the big climate-modeling enterprises and a vast archipelago of research departments and "institutes of climate change" across academia. It's where the money is. Skepticism, particularly for a young climatologist or atmospheric physicist, can be a career breaker.(continued)

Obama should have received briefing papers describing the nature of the emails, the significance of the fraud as it relates to global warming and the impact to our national policy. For him to act like these emails do not exist is a major offense. It is worse than President Bush saying that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and that was the cause of his decision to invade. I am sure President Bush did not receive any intelligence to refute his information about Iraq. If he did, I am sure that would have been grounds for impeachment. In Obama’s case, impreachment is on the table.

This stool was held aloft by several very shaky legs, now at least three of them have completely collapsed. First, the proxy temperature and CO2 data from the Vostok ice cores was misinterpreted, rises in CO2 followed temperature gains, not visa versa. Next, the inconvenient truth that global temperatures have abated since 1998. And finally, we have clearly seen that the temperature reconstructions have been manipulated to produce a pre-determined result based on political goals. The stool stands no more.
I believe that the final and most important leg will also soon collapse. The Global Circulation Models that have thus far completely failed to predict anything in the global climate system will be shown to be completely unreliable political alchemy. They can no more predict future climate than they can weave straw into gold.

Forgive me for being somewhat mealy-mouthed, but I'm still in shock. If the AGW model truly violates the Second Law of Thermodynamics, then billions upon billions of dollars have been sunk into a more complex variant of a perpetual-motion machine.

yes, a prominent lefty coming out against this fraud is significant. We need a few cracks in the left-wing wall of silence on this.
But this an extremely common way to establish rhetorical bonafides in Lefty circles; and after all, this is Cockburn writing for the Left. It's the journalistic equivalent of putting a dab of scented lubricant out there in the first paragraph: a smirky way to fondle his readers on the sly and seduce them into reading the rest of the article.

To compare the intellectual farce and fraud that is "Climate Change" with one of the greatest Church Councils of all time--and the carefully reasoned and proved understanding of God as holy Trinity--is totally insulting to any Christian.
