New on the 2009 Federal Tax Return - Gun Ownership Disclosure
Email | January 22, 2010 | Redleg Duke

Posted on 01/22/2010 12:54:14 PM PST by Redleg Duke

I just received an email from a friend regarding something new on the 2009 Federal IRS Tax Return requiring all gun owners to disclose all firearms they own. It claimed that this was verified by Snopes.

The email claims it was snuck in under a list of minor regulatory changes to the IRS laws and signed off without being read by the Congress Critters.

According to the email, all gun owners would need to pay a registration fee of $50 per firearm and also would require that the owners be fingerprinted.

It seems far-fetched, but I wouldn't put it past the pResident. Has anyone else received it?

It may well be a hoax but I don’t own any guns. I’m sure no one else on FR owns any either. Guns are dangerous. Why would we own any dangerous things like guns. //sarcasm off//

"Tell you what, Spunky, you just beat the shit out of me for bringing this up. Whatever it takes to make you feel like a real man!

LOL! You may want to take a look at my profile.

You have been around here long enough (1999) to know that JimRob does not want bandwidth taken up with a thread like this.

It’s true. There’s a special $200.00 levy per each firearm owned; however, you can’t send it to your regional IRS Processing Center with the rest of your return. Shoot me a FReemail and I’ll get you the info for the PO Box you’ll need to send it to.

I would quote Sen. Gramm:"I have more guns than I need, but less than I want."

That is, if this were true...

Also, would they ask "How many in house and how many buried in PVC in back yard?"

"Snopes = a liberal couple in an apt. somewhere."

May be so. Doesn't change the fact.

Snopes declares this to be FALSE. Don’t know why anyone would say that supposedly it is true — when it’s so very easy to find out it’s not.

What about the 1040 form that asks how much you made for the tax year and then states to send it all in. Do I have to keep filing that one?

One of the key lies in the original is that the bill will only become public knowledge 30 days after it is signed into law. That isn’t how lawmaking works in the US.

Even regulations from government agencies have to be publicly disclosed and have a public comment period before they go into effect.

Any time you get an email claiming a subject is verified “true” by Snopes, verify it yourself by Snopes before forwarding it.

I may well be the biggest conspiracy nut in the US, but even I find it hard to believe that the left could be THIS nuts. Their response rate would be minimal, at best. And the NRA would have a bloody fit, as would 100 million gun owners across the country. The left would LOVE to do this, but I can’t imagine they have the guts or the requisite death wish.
