Schools: U.S. History Out, Environment In

Change often leads to controversy and that is certainly the case in North Carolina where an effort to revamp the state's education system has some people outraged that high school students will not learn enough American history.

The formula for teaching American history has been pretty simple. Start at the beginning and go forward. But a new proposal under review in North Carolina threatens to disrupt that standard teaching philosophy.

"If our students don't know what happened in world history, and if they don't know what happened in U.S. history from George Washington's presidency all the way up through the Civil War, then they will not be able to grasp the big picture," said Mike Belter, a Social Studies teacher in North Carolina.

The state's on-going curriculum review hits all subjects but it's the proposed changes for high school students learning social studies that have provoked fears. Under the new guidelines, students will graduate without learning enough about world history and key parts of American history including Abraham Lincoln, westward expansion or much else that happened before 1877 when Reconstruction ended, critics say.

Basically, North Carolina public skewls want to change their high school curriculum and eliminate any early US History - no Founding Fathers, no Constitution, no Bill of Rights....

The public non-education system in NC wants the kiddies to learn US History from 1877 onward, lol.

The 60s lefty generation has now taken over the public schools. Eliminating history classes is driven by left-wing ideology.

Never underestimate the vapidness of a degree in “education”.

And never, never ever respect a “teacher’s union”.

End of history lesson.

We wouldn’t dare let the little darlings learn anything about the Constitution. Might have an uprising or something later on down the line.

And what will be taught about the environment? Will they teach the stuff that is now being exposed for the total fraud that it is?

I don't know what the point is in discussing the degeneracy of public education. Government schools are a socialism organization. Socialism is unreformable. What do you expect from socialism?

Friends don't let friends send their kids to socialist government schools.

A step forward in the indoctrination agenda.

A lot of the ideas the Left wants to destroy were at the forefront at the Founding - a government of limited powers, God-given rights inhering in ordinary people, the right to have firearms for defense, the legitimacy of overthrowing an oppressive and intrusive government, and so forth.

Also, the focus on “the environment” is meant to supply a religion for the masses. The secular progressive elite have come to the conclusion that the proletarian masses are ineradicably superstitious, and the “earth-worship” message is one that they believe they can control for their own political purposes.

This is a ridiculous move on the part of the NC public school system. I see it as a trial balloon (they almost admit to as much in the FOX TV story I saw) to see if their dream of a total little Marxist takeover of the kiddies can succeed.

Hasn’t every crackpot despotic dictator tried this before?? Keep the peasants stupid and malleable.

Unfortunately a lot of people aren’t smart enough to take thier kids out of school, let alone teach them.

Look at Detroit, those kids learned everything they know from thier parents.

No, it doesn’t sound odd. The public school systems are being used as a social indoctrination tool and the end results will be quite dangerous.

I guess it's easier to teach emotional lies like environmentalism which you can fake all the way than hard truths like history which have real sources you can check.

No doubt teaching about polar bears and global warming has more upside for Liberals than George Washington or our Constitution.

The object, of course, is to produce a society of moronic drones with no civic knowledge or virtue who are completely malleable and controllable by their Liberal masters. They are succeeding.

My experience with government-owned children is that their grasp of anything that happened before Last Thursday is so feeble that it is impossible to make clear to them when Jesus Christ was on earth. They never heard of the Roman Empire. They don’t know where it was or when it was. They have no notion of what civilization was like in any given century since then. They simply have no idea where they fit in in any meaningful timeline.

Prayer in government school is like prayer in a whorehouse.

The government schools are not being “used” to promote socialism.

They ARE socialist. They ARE Communism in practice.

And they were forced on the American people through lies and bribes, and by and military force in some cases.

THEY ARE NOT GOING TO TEACH THEM ABOUT OUR REVOLUTIONARY WAR, DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE AND CONSTITUTION, OR THE CIVIL WAR. This is a deliberate effort to create ignorant dummies who know nothing about their liberty and why they have it. But they are going to each them about the robber barons. The people of North Carolina should be screaming bloody murder. The “educators” who thought this up and are planning it ought to be looking for another job.
