I just hope it isn’t a mini-nuke.

From your lips to God's ear, Niuhuru.

I hadn't thought of that....

Never heard “blow down” being used with purging gas lines. When we purge gas lines we always put N2 into the system ensuring at least one high point vent is open and don’t stop purging until we get no reading at the vent on the Drager combustible gas analyzer. Wonder how long and what diameter line they were trying to purge? Without looking at the P&ID’s, I believe our main gas line is a 12”. A guy I’m on shift with tonight has a friend who’s brother left the plant an hour before the explosion. We’ll be getting an update from him at halftime. I’ll post info as I get it.

Thank you so very much, that is really great of you to do this. What a horrific occurrence, and so little news in the aftermath,

I was in Manchester when it exploded (taking a class) and I didn’t notice it. Surprised you noticed it way over in Ledyard.

I worked a single day there 3 yars ago, I worked on the turbines for peak power

To clear out a line like they did is a dangerous but common event

I did it in Peru once, scared the life out of me

you open up a 6 inch or 10 inch natural gas line and just let it vent to get rid of sand particles that are on the inside of the piping.

I am not surprised it exploded, it is an accident waiting to happen.

doubtful, that plant is right on the river, on the side of a hill, the explosion would have een contained well

there were some houses about 1/4 to 1/2 mile up the road, I bet they need some new windows in more than a couple

I worked there for a day 3 years ago

I suspect they heard it down on Long Island sound because the shock wave traveled unimpeded right down the river.

I didn’t hear it; rather, I felt it. Funny that way. I hope the casualties are not worse than what I’ve heard.

The geography may have focused the blast eastward. I definitely felt it.

No doubt he would try to keep a lid on it. Evidently they are saying it was a natural gas leak. That sounds odd to me but we’ll see.

Is this anywhere near you?

Sorry I didn't reply to you sooner, SE Mom. I was offline most of the weekend.

No, Middletown is about 30 miles south of here, and we didn't feel anything. It's just horrific... prayers for all involved in this tragedy.
