I was at Yale/New haven visiting my wife when I got a cell call from a friend informing me of the news. I went out into the hall (Surgical Intensive Care Unit), and saw the staff gathering for a meeting. I overheard talk about getting the empty rooms ready for occupancy and things.

One of the nurses is friendly, and I asked her if this was abotu Middleotwn. she said “Yes”, and I let her go about her work. I think I heard a figure of over 100 injured at the time.

Fortunately they apparently had no need. but were prepared. in the condition my wife is in, I was afraid that if they got overwhelmed that they might ‘let her go’ in order to get another room...

From some of the map software people showed, that NEW area? not dug up yet? I was at the OTHER plant, the NRG plant, so...

Where I was at wasn’t atop any hill, it was down by the water.

When we cleaned out the line at Santa Rosa Station in Lima Peru, we just took off a flange and elbow and opened up the gate, literally

I was shocked to see it and made sure I stood FAR away.

We had a lot of rust and sand and particulates in the line, it was clogging up the fuel nozzles on the engines

The line we opened up was a 8inch or 10 inch line, it was open for 20 minutes

it was a brand new line, they switched from Diesel to Natural Gas. This was about May or june 2006

I'm so sorry to hear about your wife, camle. I'll remember her in my prayers.

I had 3 surgeries (2 major, one minor) between Nov 2008 and June 2009 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. I can't give enough praise to everyone I came in contact with there... doctors, nurses, all medical professionals. Even the secretaries who checked me into the various departments were top-notch. Yale-New Haven is the finest hospital in Connecticut, IMO... one of the best in the country.

thank you, Nutmeg, for your kind words. a class 1 diabetic, she was always behind the eight ball - health wise. but we managed to put together ten years of teh best life a guy could want.
last march she had back-to-back heart attacks, that left her brain damaged, unable to be left alone. We coped with her agonizingly slow recovery - she could at least dress herself most days - until new years when she fell down the stairwell.
bleeding on the brain managed to get her shipped to Yale, where her condition gradually deteriorated until she is on the verge of systematic shutdown.
Her injuries were not that severe, but she kept getting infections, etc., and they had to put her under. she’s been out of it for three weeks now and growing weaker by the day.
(sigh!)

Having been involved in these things over the years it seems, as we say in the Power Trades, someone had a case of dumb ass.

Yeah that would make sense. Manchester is near the wide river valley, whereas it starts getting narrow and rocky by Haddam, just south of this blast. I would think the bedrock would transmit the sound better than all that deep silt.

I just don’t know though. The worst part would be the fallout and then no one would be able to go within a range of that area without getting radiation poisoning. In all though, for all the ones dead, I hope it was just an accident.
