No it is not a hoax. The USN is paying the Swedes to come over and play ASW ops with them.
Only, it is turning out to be a bit of an embarrassment for the USN because the Swedes keep winning.
Doubtless rather like Charles XII, until (of course) the Battle of Poltava.
So who will the Swedes end up playing ball with? It would be worth the hush money to buy all the rights from them.
I’m just wondering about the range of this sub, for the most part, it looks a little small to be able to roam the atlantic let alone the pacific for extended periods in low detection mode. Secondly, how good are its detection capabilities? I don’t think it would be hard to find a carrier, but a modern USN attack sub running at good quiet I wonder.
Folks, we train like this for a reason. And there has been distinct interest in modern diesels and the threat of modern diesels has been openly discussed. If this war game opens some eyes in leadership that's a good thing. Hopefully, brass doesn't share the prevailing attitude on this thread of "can't happen."
It speaks well of the USN to let themselves be embarrassed to solve a serious problem.
Sometimes you learn more from losing in maneuvers like this than you do from winning.
Not just the Swedes, apparently. Subs in general keep winning, without regard to nationality. Surface ships are at a huge disadvantage.
