~LOL~ I don’t know we have a whole lot of them around here... I noticed a lot of old men kept walking back to the area where the bikes, treadmill, etc., are located to look at the Fox TV screen, not a lot looking at CNN there..

Going back to the beginning of the thread, Obama got the first 20 minutes. I think Lamar got something like 15 minutes, Then Obama, Pelosi and Reid all got something like 10 minutes each. Then Coburn talked for about 5 minutes before Reid called him out and said he was filibustering,

Did you notice how everytime one of the Democrats praised him he just perked up and smiled and was so attentive as to what they were saying?

Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) Definition

Written by Sam Vaknin

What is Narcissism?

A pattern of traits and behaviors which signify infatuation and obsession with one's self to the exclusion of all others and the egotistic and ruthless pursuit of one's gratification, dominance and ambition.

Most narcissists (75%) are men.

NPD is one of a "family" of personality disorders (formerly known as "Cluster B").

Other members: Borderline PD, Antisocial PD and Histrionic PD.

NPD is often diagnosed with other mental health disorders ("co-morbidity") - or with substance abuse, or impulsive and reckless behaviors ("dual diagnosis").

NPD is new (1980) mental health category in the Diagnostic and Statistics Manual (DSM).

There is only scant research regarding narcissism. But what there is has not demonstrated any ethnic, social, cultural, economic, genetic, or professional predilection to NPD.

It is estimated that 0.7-1% of the general population suffer from NPD.

Pathological narcissism was first described in detail by Freud. Other major contributors are: Klein, Horney, Kohut, Kernberg, Millon, Roningstam, Gunderson, Hare.

The onset of narcissism is in infancy, childhood and early adolescence. It is commonly attributed to childhood abuse and trauma inflicted by parents, authority figures, or even peers.

There is a whole range of narcissistic reactions - from the mild, reactive and transient to the permanent personality disorder.

Narcissists are either "Cerebral" (derive their narcissistic supply from their intelligence or academic achievements) - or "Somatic" (derive their narcissistic supply from their physique, exercise, physical or sexual prowess and "conquests").

An all-pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behaviour), need for admiration or adulation and lack of empathy, usually beginning by early adulthood and present in various contexts. Five (or more) of the following criteria must be met:

* Feels grandiose and self-important (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents to the point of lying, demands to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)

* Is obsessed with fantasies of unlimited success, fame, fearsome power or omnipotence, unequalled brilliance (the cerebral narcissist), bodily beauty or sexual performance (the somatic narcissist), or ideal, everlasting, all-conquering love or passion

* Firmly convinced that he or she is unique and, being special, can only be understood by, should only be treated by, or associate with, other special or unique, or high-status people (or institutions)

* Requires excessive admiration, adulation, attention and affirmation - or, failing that, wishes to be feared and to be notorious (narcissistic supply)

* Feels entitled. Expects unreasonable or special and favorable priority treatment. Demands automatic and full compliance with his or her expectations

* Is "interpersonally exploitative", i.e., uses others to achieve his or her own ends

* Devoid of empathy. Is unable or unwilling to identify with or acknowledge the feelings and needs of others

* Constantly envious of others or believes that they feel the same about him or her

* Arrogant, haughty behaviours or attitudes coupled with rage when frustrated, contradicted, or confronted

"think he will be impeached and booted out of office waaay before then!"

I think the same thing. Nobody can run such an incompetent administration without doing something illegal sooner than later. I don't see how we are going to get through the next 3 years without real catastrophe.

A pundit hit this whole exercise on the head. If you noticed, the Dems kept assuring the public that both sides were almost in agreement except for a few minor differences. This way when they pass it through reconciliation they can say the GOP was in favor of the majority of the bill except for one or two minor points that both sides couldn't agree on. They have their cover with voters who really didn't understand what they heard today. Shame on the GOP for not correcting this repetitive lie.

Wow. I only saw the morning half of the summit, so I really appreciate your input, StarFan.

I did hear Zero's closing remarks and listened to Major Garrett's interpretation of those remarks. Sounds like the RATs are going to go the reconciliation route, incredibly.

Freakin' RATs. I think we all had better make our plans to march on Washington - yet again - VERY SOON. This is going to be WAR.

Going by Mitch’s complaint, The Dems got 57 minutes compared to the R’s 23 minutes. That was about when you starting keeping score.

You are correct. I see that that is the underlying fatal flaw in this whole charade—an attempt to take a congressional debate out of Congress and put it under the manipulative control of a domineering president. You have hit the nail on the head.

I don’t think anyone is going to budge.
Pelosi doesn’t have the votes in the House and the senate doesn’t want to go first, but minds in the senate are subject to change.

Should reconciliation be used...I will be watching very carefully, very carefully, to see which Senators put on the “cold stone” persona, never to associate, talk, or cooperate with them, in any way, the rest of the way. Mr. McCain did you mean it?

"It’s not a threat. They will do it."

If they could do it they would have done it already. They have the majority. They don't have the votes. Obama even said today, vote for this bill or we'll just do it through the HHS and you won't have any control over it. They threatened recon. all day long. A couple of them even said they'll change the super majority rule. Threats to get Repubs to give in the way they've always done in the past.
