She needs to fight the perception that she’s a lightweight and a flake.

She can't. People will continue to repeat what you just wrote no matter what she does. Not that I agree with it, I don't. Don't see the point in propagating the left wing view either.

Sarah is wonderful, and if you don’t “get it”.....Sarah is lightning and fire ........she won’t kill your kids, or your babies. She also won’t kill your grandmother.........

I know, I know, we are all stupid, and need to be Communist............What is your problem?

Isn’t there some way we can make everyone a Comminist?....LOL

I view FR not as a cheerleading board, but a place to advance conservatism, and in the real-world, that largely means getting conservatives elected to office. Governor Palin, with both her conservatism and in her willingness to lead some very critical charges in the last year, is the person I most want to get into office in 2012.

But that requires that a) Palin wants to run (not clear, and out of my control), and that b) she gets elected (unsure, and incredibly slightly in my control). That second part will require winning over the electorate, who may very well be extremely wary of anyone without extensive executive experience, after the Obama disaster.

Some have asked me what kind of "shoring up" job do I have in mind? That's a fair question. Unfortunately, short-term assignments like plastic-man Romney's Salt Lake City Olympics gig don't happen very often - but if something like that were to turn up, that would be ideal.

I hear Palin may be getting involved with a "Planet Earth" style show on Alaska. (I'm going to ignore the innuendo that it's some reality-based mess.) If she is involved as a hands-on executive producer, that helps fit the bill: getting a show up off the ground, and getting it to be a ratings success is no small accomplishment. And it just might also fit the bill from a timing perspective.

Another opportunity: in this economic environment, I'm willing to bet that there are charities in need of a good solid board member. Showing an increase of fundraising, combined with effective guidance on how to better run operations would also help round out her resume. Besides, the more important thing here is that she'd be doing God's work, and in the case of special-needs kids charities, it would be something obviously she's already involved with.

Another opportunity: being an active board-member of a company closely related to, but not directly involved with the energy sector. She can't be working directly with an energy company, due to an appearance of a conflict of interest, but someone who's a heavy consumer of energy (chemical sector?) would be good.

Are these things enough? I don't know. But they help - and we'll need all the help we can get to win in 2012. It won't be an easy election, no matter how nasty Zero is. Obama has an incredibly effective political ground operation (evil as it is), and besides, Palin would first have to win the GOP nomination.

Finally, just because someone's a messenger doesn't mean they're not on your team, so Don't Taze Me, Bros!

I don't see Abe Lincoln doing stand-up.

Actually, he did, both as a lawyer in court and as a politician on the stump. It was one of the reasons he was so successful in getting votes and getting his name out in early Republican circles.

The O'Brien Show and the Oprah Show and start demonstrate her intellectual bona fides to the people who are convinced she's a light-weight, which is not an insignificant number of people.

You don't want someone who's a real, down-to-earth working middle-class person as President, you want Adlai Stevenson...

Lincoln was probably the best writer that has ever held the office, with a towering intellect.

Sorry, but the Best Writer/Towering Intellect Award goes to Thomas Jefferson.

"Sorry, but the Best Writer/Towering Intellect Award goes to Thomas Jefferson. "

Well, you could get into a month-long debate on this question. Clearly, Jefferson was a genius and a prolific and excellent writer. One might also argue that Madison was the brightest, and they too would have a strong case. Adams - the first one - was reading Cicero in the native Latin at age 12, so he's not a intellectual lightweight. And, many literary scholars say that either Teddy Roosevelt, US Grant or Eisenhower's autobiographies are the best written by Presidents, making them candidates for the best writers.

For me personally, reading Lincoln's letter's that that have been archived, as well as the speeches he gave, leads me to believe that his economy of speech or words, measured against their power and effectiveness, make him the best writer that has ever held the office. It's a personal opinion, but one that is shared by many literary scholars.

[Palin’s ghostwriter was someone named Lynn Vincent. You can google him. It’s well documented.]

You are bright as a post. Lynn Vincent is a woman, not a man, and a damn fine writer. Almost all political books now have ghost writers, in fact JFKs book Profiles In Courage was written by Salinger. So are you telling us Mitt wrote his book on his own, because that isn’t true either. Apparently you have never read anything Palin has written, because she writes clear as a bell. I write books too, and trust me, she writes circles around most people.

Hey, Madame Strawman - did I say that? Just because some people use ghostwriters, this is the standard that we should accept? Did Lincoln, or Teddy or Eisenhower use ghostwriters? It seems to me that ANYONE who apires to the most important job in the world can pen a book all by themselves, especially when that book is actually about themselves.

"Apparently you have never read anything Palin has written, because she writes clear as a bell"

Oh, is that what the kids are calling it today? I come from a different generation, I guess.

Whoever suggested the proportional representation, knowing the North would outgrow and thus outvote the South, was the smartest.

As for Lincoln’s humor: “Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt,” was not only funny but good advice.

I’m not the only one who should remember it more often.
