Jewish War Veterans memorial vandalized in Monticello

Several businesses in Monticello were hit with gang graffiti overnight, including on the sign outside the Jewish War Veterans of the United States memorial on Liberty Street.

The graffiti covers the sign, including scrawled words like “Power,” "Money” and “Loyalty.” There is also a trident symbol painted in blue.

Chief Doug Solomon says these are symbols commonly used by street gangs. He doesn't believe the vandalism was racially motivated.

The window and door of Vino on Broadway was also marked with the letters "BK" and "BX."

Solomon said other businesses were vandalized overnight.

Robert Blank, the commandeer of the Jesse Brams Post 206, said this morning that he was unaware of the graffiti.

“Oh God, that's horrible,” he said when reached at work.

Blank said he would soon drive to the memorial and speak with police.

So, the cheif dosen't beleive this was a "hate crime", huh? We all know what happens when we ASSume. If it's not a hate crime what else could it be, a love crime?!? Oh, yeah, don't want to offend members of the criminal gansta community. Rhetorical question of the day, if it were a Black or Latino veterans memorial that were vandalized would the cheif jump to the same conclusion?

I suggest the following:

• Wash/clean up all the graffiti.
• Set out night ambush teams at each site.
• Shoot the first SOB who shows up with a can of paint in his hands.
• Repeat as required.

“Power,” "Money” and “Loyalty.” are typical gang grafitti themes. BK probably stands for "Black Killers". "BX" may in fact be like this grafitti:

This really says "B > C", or "Bloods Greater Than Crips"

Another possibility is that someone is mad at the Gangster Disciples. They use the star of David as a symbol, so if it is prominant on the Jewish War memorial, it may have been targeted by mis-association. The Trident is also a Gangster Disciple symbol.

If there are no specifically anti-semetic themes on the grafitti I doubt that the intent is anti-semetic. If the memorial had been tagged by neo-Nazi's they would not have omitted swastikas, lighting bolts and other symbols near and dear to them.

As you indicated it IS a message, maybe not to Jewish community, but it is still a message.

Agreed. I have a long time interested in decyphering gang grafitti, just a hobby. Some LEOs are really good at it, others are clueless.

I know nothing about the gang stuff, but BK and BX could also stand for Brooklyn and The Bronx.
