The Romney-Reagan remix
Boston ^ | March 9, 2010 | Alex Beam

Posted on 03/11/2010 3:39:45 PM PST by yongin

Mitt Romney was on the David Letterman show last week and hit a home run. It was two white guys from the Midwest, born in 1947, chatting amiably about the icons of yesteryear: Earl Scheib, the car-painting magnate; the Studebaker (a car, for you younger readers) and the Rambler Classic, manufactured by AMC, the automobile company managed by Mitt’s father, George. AMC and Studebaker were wiped from the face of the earth by better cars made in Japan by more diligent workers, although that is not a subject that came up.

Letterman saved the last minute of Romney’s appearance for some happy chat about Mitt’s Gawker moment: his he-said, he-said altercation on a plane with B-list rapper Sky Blu. Romney said Blu “gave me a good swat.’’ With perfect timing, just before breaking to a commercial, Romney let fly his wan, scripted joke: “He broke my hair.’’

Oh my heavens, I thought. He’s running as Ronald Reagan. The lacquered hair; the cloying nostalgia; the Deaver-esque, red-white-and-blue, me-Tarzan leitmotifs of his “Free Strong America’’ campaign. It worked once, twice if you count Reagan’s reelection. Perhaps the third time will be charmed, too.

Romney: "I Was For The Bailout Before I Was Against It”

“Romney praises Obama
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney praised President Obama
at a GOP fundraising dinner Wednesday ..
"I also think it's important for us to nod to the president when he's right," Romney said....
Romney, who spoke at a dinner for the National Republican Senatorial Committee,
said he's pleased with the president's plans to "finish the job" in Iraq and Afghanistan
-- lines that drew applause from the partisan audience. He also applauded the president
for standing up to the auto industry.
"I hope he continues to be tough ....The former businessman even offered faint praise for
Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, saying that after a series of initial missteps,
"I think he's finally getting close to the right answer."

AH, no, Ronmney is not running as Ronald Reagan...

Romney hated Reagan...

He even boasted he was an Independant during the Reagan-Bush years...

That would be 1980-1993...he said that in 1994...

Reagan was a conservative...

Romney is a liberal....

pro-abortion,
big government,
anti troops,
anti military,
draft dodger,
anti 2nd Amendment,
same sex marriage,
gay rights,
ObamaRomneyCare,
Cap and Trade,
AMNESTY Bill
Stimulus Money

Is Romney the new Reagan?

Gee, I just posted this about Mitt Romney and Reagan on a different thread.

Why do you think that he renounced the Republican party during the Reagan Revolution, re registered Republican in 1993 after Clinton defeated Reagan’s vice president and having voted for Paul Tsongas in the primary and funding and fund raising for Democrats, and then campaigned on the fact that he had NOT been a Reagan Republican, and did NOT want to return to Reagan-Bush?

Alex Beam: “In truth, Ronald Reagan
and Mitt Romney have as much in common
as Cardinal O’Malley and Conan O’Brien.
Deservedly or not, Reagan earned a reputation for constancy.
Once he turned against communism, he opposed it big-time.
…. And our former governor? Inconstancy, thy name is Mitt!
A woman’s right to choose? Yes! No! Yes!
Are we in Massachusetts? Yes! Are we in Iowa? No!
Are we on TV? Whatever!”

Mitt RomneyCARE (D, RINO): "I'm not running as the Republican view or a continuation of Republican values.
That's not what brings me to the race.

(Backstabber Romney Video, accessed 9/19/07)

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party
over to the traitors in the battle just ended.
We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged
to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support.
Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates
wouldn’t make any sense at all.""

--  President Ronald Reagan

Mitt RomneyCARE (D, RINO): ”I'm very clear I think, to the people across the Commonwealth
my "R" didn't stand so much for Republican as it does for reform.
"
(Video, accessed 9/19/07)

"A political party cannot be all things to all people.
It must represent certain fundamental beliefs
which must not be compromised to political expediency
or simply to swell its numbers."

--  President Ronald Reagan

Reagan made his bones moving up the Hollywood ladder. Romney started his career making the sparks fly at Bain & Co., then as now a blast furnace of intellect and ambition. It is hard to imagine two more different ways to earn a living.

Mmmm ... movie star ... management consultant ...

Wow! It is hard to imagine two more different ways to earn a living!

Poles apart! As different as night and day!

Nothing against either Romney or Reagan, but Alex Beam is an idiot.

Nonsense they were done in by poor design and butt ugly styling. The "energy crisis" helped everyone a bunch too. Wouldn't mind having a Javelin AMX with a 401 right about now. The Pacer killed AMC. I think the Lark killed Studebaker, but who kept up with them.

Yongin asks a dumb question because it has to be
tossed out meekly as a question because ...
Mitt RomneyCARE is not President Ronald Reagan.

That said, and there is no question mark here:

Gov. Sarah Palin could be the next President Ronald Reagan.

Doncha think Alex Beam gave RomneyCARE a break
from his usual sharp literary blade.

For example, Beam ignored RomneyCAREs assault of another on a plane
and took the made up "Romney-hallucinated" version.

I know how these trolls operate. Start a thread, ask a dumb question and run or stay around and get slapped around.

Go SARAH!

Reagan was very ideological. He was a political idea man. First quite leftist during FDR. Then he went head to head with communists in Hollywood and then his fairly quick move to the right. He was very well read in political theory and political economy. Unlike Mitt.

Reagan became fixed on his principals. Mitt is always at flux. Reagan’s main goal was a better country through freedom. Mitt’s goal is the Presidency. Everything else is dumpible.

Not necessarily a troll, I believe he’s just trying to get some action going as the mittbots stay pretty much in the shadows any more.

Once in a while one will poke her nose into one of these threads and then is promptly and properly castigated. They are few and far between and as a result these threads tend to be boring.

I’ve considered acting as if I were a mitt worshiper just to get a little action going but I can’t do it.....Not even pretend.

I will continue to click on them to see if any liberal idiots come out of the wood work.

Hi Nana, Selah!

Not necessarily a troll

Well, anyone that is not for conservative candidates and comes to FR to push a lib aka a RINO, IMO, is a troll. This is a conservative website and, personally, there is enough to fight in the real world - who needs/wants it here!

I will continue to click on them to see if any liberal idiots come out of the wood work.

Good! We're counting on you and since 'you' want action I'll ping you when I come across them!
