Rajendra Pachauri said he would focus in future on presenting the science on climate change rather than advocating policies
The outspoken chairman of the UNs climate change body is to adopt a neutral advisory role and has agreed to stop making statements demanding new taxes and other radical policies on cutting emissions.
In an interview with The Times, Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, apologised for his organisations handling of complaints about errors in its report.
He also apologised for describing as voodoo science an Indian Government report which challenged the IPCCs claims about the rapid melting of Himalayan glaciers.
But Dr Pachauri, 70, rejected calls for his resignation and insisted he would remain as chairman until after publication of the IPCCs next report in 2014.
He claimed he had the support of all the worlds governments and denied that, by remaining in post, he was undermining the IPCCs chances of regaining credibility with the public.
It is not correct to say there are people who dont trust me, he said.
He admitted it had been a mistake to give the impression, in many interviews, that he was advocating specific actions to cut emissions. Last year, he called for higher taxes on aviation and motoring, said people should eat less meat, and proposed that hotel rooms should have electricity meters to charge people extra for using air conditioning.
Speaking in London yesterday, he said he would focus in future on presenting the science on climate change rather than advocating policies.
I will try to clarify that Im not prescribing anything as a solution. Maybe I should be more careful [in media interviews] in laying down certain riders. One learns from that and Im learning.

Incredible that these incompetent, criminal frauds get to keep their jobs.
Why ask for a resignation? Fire his ass!
Get the clown out of there....
At age 70, this guy should have learned by now that one does not overstep the boundaries of one's position. That in and of itself is grounds for being fired.
Follow the Ruppies.
Clown? He looks like monster!
He is a Vegetarian.... Author of Novels...with erotica themes....
It is not correct to say there are people who dont trust me, he said.

What a sweet gig. Make half-arsed conclusions and be proven horribly wrong and STILL keep your job.
Just like James Hansen at NASA.
Just think, he’ll continue to live off our dime even after he is out of a job.
Oh yeah, I believe him..
LMAO!!

“It is not correct to say there are people who dont trust me, he said.”
Well, there would always be me :)
Dr Pachauri, if you have to lie to support your ideology, maybe what you need is not "to be more careful" [about letting people know too much about what you are up to] so much as a change to an honest ideology.
“I never did it, and besides, I’m no longer doing it.”
In other words, the puppetmaster told him to shut up so they can do things quietly and through the backdoor.
