Federal air marshals subdued a man who authorities say attempted to "light his shoes on fire" on a United flight from Washington Reagan to Denver Wednesday night, federal law enforcement officials told ABC News.

The suspect was identified by authorities as a diplomat in the Qatar embassy in Washington, Mohammed al Modadi. The FBI said the man had full diplomat immunity as the 3rd secretary and vice-consul.

Yes,they have body scans at Reagan. More important, Nepolitano just noted over the last few days that body scans do not reveal everything (or something like that). Geez.
The guy has been in-country for a number of years and you would think that he would know how to behave on an aircraft. But, then again, what do I know, I’m just an average American.
It could be a dry run to check security response, how many marshalls on board, how quickly the jets are scrambled, etc.
They had better not assume it was just a “joke”.

Qatar is one of the most liberal nations of the Middle East. They’re more interested in the almighty dollar than the Qu’ran even! If this in any way has created a black-mark on their ability to accumulate tourist dollars- and it has- this guy would likely get a better “sentence” here than in Qatar!!!
In which case, you watch the response. No waiver, bases begin to get dismantled. When asked what is going on, quietly state that if we're not welcome, and this behavior continues......well, it takes about 20 minutes or less for warheads to reach their target.
Speak softly and carry a big stick. I know the incompetents in Washington may not act this way now, but things tend to change.
