They do all their polling from sunset Friday till sunset Saturday.
Does anyone have a breakdown of % of American Jews in the different ‘branches?’ Or even a breakdown of observant (to any degree) vs. secular American Jews? I’m thinking in the US, too many Jews are like “Christmas-Easter” Catholics/Protestants. So the label really doesn’t mean anything, at least in terms of political leanings being affected by religious designations.
;o)
Bingo! We got a Gallup call yesterday afternoon, as a matter of fact.
I, too, am seriously curious where they are getting their samples of “Jewish” voters.
Zip code? What?
ah, but did you answer the phone ???
Let’s say I doubt they call anyone in the zip code for the Orthodox enclave up near Montrose, NY. Probably stick to the ‘cooler’ zips in Manhattan/Brooklyn/LA.
Sometimes I swear the polling is done in the media outlet’s news room.
Most American Jews do not vote on Israel. They vote based on issues in the US. Sadly they are liberals.
Haha, I did not.
We all live in echo-chambers of people who “think like us.”
I never forget hearing the comment of a NYT socialite saying it was “impossible” that Nixon won because “no one she knew voted for Nixon.”
Still, I noticed Obama support (and Palin dislike) among Jewish people I knew, and now the common sentiment is “Obama is a dangerous anti-semite” and (to a much less degree) “Palin is not nearly as crazy as I thought.”
The crazy redistribution, job-killing, business-killing, policies of Obama have more to do with the sentiment than anything regarding Israel -— his obvious subversion of Israel generates the emotional response that seems to be putting the Jewish people I know “over the top” in disliking him.
Getting back to the point of self-identified Jewish voters in poll questions -— there is NO WAY I would identify myself as Jewish in this day and age to a phone caller.
We have mezuzot on our door frames; no other clue.
I think conservative Jewish people (policitical, not branch of Judaism) like me would be loathe to idetify themselves to strangers, as it could cause trouble.
Anyway, long way of saying, for logical and ancedotal reasons, I don’t think these polls are accurrate.
