Another reason to avoid Manhattan... They are going to watch you like a hawk.

And, the cameras will be used for everything including speeding violations, red light violations, and congestion pricing/tolling. Taxes, taxes, and more taxes will come from these cameras.

Makes sense. Not only did the existing cameras fail to prevent the SUV from burning, they also lead investigators in the wrong direction - looking for a balding white guy.

Think how much safer we’d be with 100,000 more cameras!

I prefer the “Kill Them Over There” Strategy of the good old days before Obama.

Just like the UK.

Maybe they will get the ones that talk to you.

The article suggests some of the ways such a surveillance system could increase security—for example by checking license plates. Possibly that could be automated, and set to notify authorities if a listed plate entered the city.

But otherwise, such a system would need smart people viewing those cameras, and I don’t see how they could possibly do that over large areas of the city as opposed to sensitive places like the stock exchange.

In the case of the Times Square bomber, surveillance cameras picked up information that could be used after the fact—possibly. Although the vehicle registration number appears to have been the key bit of information, and that was gotten off of the engine and axle.

But there was no way more cameras could have prevented the bombing, if the bomber hadn’t messed up. There was no reason to be suspicious until the smoke appeared.

Gee, you can have a billion cameras ... they will be retroactive. Great thing to have after the fact.

Instead of stopping the never ending conga line of dangerous, questionable Mid Eastern immigrants, they’re going to put American citizens under total surveillance.

Studies have shown that a person can only watch six cameras at once. More then that and they see nothing after just 20 minutes. What we really want to know is how someone could find a parking place in Times Square. Answer that and you can ex plane why a camera would prevent anything. From what I have seen they display baldness and hair parts badly.

What an evil waste. They won’t prevent anything. They didn’t prevent this incident, or the bombings in the UK or Spain.

When Surveillance Cameras Talk
http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1711972,00.html

(excerpt)
“Big Brother is not only watching you; in Barking and Dagenham, Big Brother wants a word. The disembodied voices of authority offering advice and warnings that now issue as if from thin air in the hardscrabble east London borough are, in fact, talking CCTV cameras — the latest high-tech weapon in the war on littering, graffiti, vandalism and other antisocial behavior. Sixteen of the borough’s 84 surveillance cameras have been wired for sound, making London’s first video monitoring network with a broadcasting capacity. A second borough, Southwark, will soon adopt the same system.”

(Where the U.K. goes America doesn’t trail far behind.)

You bet...Some Pakistani could drive a truck into the U.S. from corrupt Mexico, packed with cargo a little more dangerous than they typical 56 Mexicans illegals...Park in downtown Houston and punch in a number...

All the cameras in the world would do nothing...

Baghdad comes to NYC. How's that hopey-changey thing working out obama? Hmmm? 4 terrorist attacks attempted or completed in your first year or so. I'd say on the National Security front you're a complete disaster. Then again, I'd say that about you on any issue. At least you're consistently in over your head. That begs the question, just what are you good at obama, really? Do you have any marketable skills other than speaking and lying?

Looks like Shahzad was more successful than we’re giving him credit for. Get ready for more freedoms and privacy to take a hit.
