BOSTON -- The MBTA is addressing an omission in its policies that has allowed Orange, Red and Blue line operators to run subway trains without a driver's license.
Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority General Manager Richard Davey declared this month that any new subway driver hired by the region's largest transit agency must have a valid license.
Licenses are already required for bus and Green Line drivers, since their equipment operates at least part of the time on public byways. Subway operators have been exempted because the Orange, Red and Blue lines run on dedicated tracks that don't intersect with motor vehicle or pedestrian traffic.
TOPICS: Business/Economy; Crime/Corruption; Culture/Society; Government
KEYWORDS: boston; democrat; illegalaliens; noaccountability; noadults; noresponsibility; unions
When you ride Bostons dirty, rickety, money losing, slow, killing( litterally ), urine/vomit stinking, no air conditioning 'mass transit system', it would be nice, 90 years after Henry Ford's Model T, that the drivers be able pass, and keep, a regular drivers licenses.
Naturally, this being the typical union hack government boondoggle, this rule only applies to 'new hires'.

How does a guy running a subway on tracks benefit from having a license for a car? What “Rules of the Road” apply underground on a subway?

It may be for proof of legal presence in the US.

You don’t need a driver’s license to fly an airplane for that matter.

It may be for proof of legal presence in the US.Not really. There are plenty of states handing out DL's to illegals.

Are you in any way familiar with the , ahem, ‘quality’ of the MBTA work force? Well, let’s put it this way. “I couldn’t pass the drivers test, but now I’m driving a MBTA train with 200 people on it.”
Or, “Yeah, I lost my license on my third DUI, but thank God the new MBTA policy only effects new hires. I can drive till my pension at age 38 in seven years.”
How’s that make you feel?

By the way, if you are fishing for scup with out a fishing license, you might have a gun put to you by the Massachusetts Fish and Clam Cops, but driving a government run train with a couple of hundred people with/can get a license? No Problem.

For example.
Transgendered and awaiting operations( on union medical care ) MBTA Trolley operator who crashed her/his/it's trolley while blabbing on her/his/it's cell phone.
In short, she/he/it was so stupid, dumb, incompetent, yet hired, that she/he/it couldn't mentally manage to run the same route, time after time, day after day...and talk...with out crashing. ( A variation of walking and chewing gum, which I think is harder than a trolley ).
Anyways, the MBTA, like 99% of government owned, union employed companies lives off, like a 40 pound tick, the taxpayers back.

- No passing other trains except to the left.
- Right on red only after making a COMPLETE stop.
- If you are turning left, you must yield right of way to other subway trains going straight.
- Subway trains must yield right of way to any pedestrians who are in marked walkways.
- When parking your subway train in the city, only use designated parking spots, and pay attention to the parking meter and time remaining! Two hour parking limits are STRICTLY enforced.

While we are at it let’s make sure the DL they get has endorsements for motorcycles and Class A CDL with haz-mat. Don’t forget about the Backseat DL. The BDL comes in handy when they the train operator has to go on break and allows one of the passengers to drive it.
