CHICAGO Even by the standards of this deficit-ridden state, Illinoiss comptroller, Daniel W. Hynes, faces an ugly balance sheet. Precisely how ugly becomes clear when he beckons you into his office to examine his daily briefing memo.
He picks the papers off his desk and points to a figure in red: $5.01 billion.
This is what the state owes right now to schools, rehabilitation centers, child care, the state university and its getting worse every single day, he says in his downtown office.

California, Illinois, New York....
Will the rest of the country be forced to bail them out?
Illinois is in the same boat as California and that boat’s name is TITANIC.
DA DUM.
DA DUM.
DA DUM DA DUM DA DUM DA DUM.
“You’re gonna need a bigger boat.”
If I ran a business the way these public service retards have run our governments, I’d be flippin’ burgers...........in jail.
As long as the majority of the voters who actually vote keep on electing the same old politicians, this is bound to happen...
...as "they" say....the definition of insanity is..........etc....
It is kind of disappointing and depressing actually, to realize that some human beings, who are supposed to possess some reasoning powers,...(some monkeys do) cannot, or will not "connect the dots".
When tax reciepts were going up a few years ago, too many governments decided to expand their activities to get the new money spent- instead of letting the taxpayers get a break- or even just saving part of it for a rainy day.
Now, its the old double whammy. Recession and reduced revenues, at the same time the new money is already committed and government doesn’t have the political courage for major cutbacks.
California, Illinois, and New York used the recent stimulus money to not downsize or budget. Now that they have burned through that pile of money, they want more from Obama’s stash.
Well, we taxpayers are the ones who are squeezed to build the stash and we say NO. Bad spending should not be rewarded by enabling more bad spending. These states have to suck it up and live under a budget that is funded by present income, not try to tap into the future by looking for a loan.
The parasites outnumber the hosts.
Gee, who saw this coming?
Maybe Obama could just give them some money from his “stash”?
Hey, as long as there are still enough taxpayers in Chicago to allow Shortshanks to direct payoffs to his friends, family and supporters, everything is just fine.
I find this rather interesting that all the “Liberal” states are the ones having financial issues.
Gee I wonder why????
Here in IL the shear volume of Chicago voters (both dead and alive) weighs down the rest of the state. If we could declare Chicago as another state we’d be ok.
I remember my Dad making the same complaint about NYC when we lived in upstate NY in the late 50s and early 60s. They bled the state dry. Some things never change.
