For those who don’t follow baseball, George Steinbrenner is the owner of the New York Yankees, and was the hands-on force that re-established the Yankees as a premier franchise in the league.

Don’t like the guy at all. I think he’s an egotistical ass. But I still wish him a full recovery.

Prayers up for Mr. Steinbrenner -- this sounds pretty serious for someone of his age.

So soon after the passing of long-time Yankee Stadium public address announcer Bob Sheppard, too.

Yankees Owner George Steinbrenner Reportedly Suffers Heart Attack

Published July 13, 2010

URGENT: New York Yankees Owner George Steinbrenner has reportedly suffered a massive heart attack and was rushed to a hospital in Florida overnight, local media reported.

Emergency crews responded to a call at Steinbrenner’s home in Tampa Monday night and took him to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where his condition is unkown, 9Online.com reported.

Steinbrenner has owned the Yankees since 1973, though his declining health forced him to hand over day-to-day operations of the team to his sons in 2006.

It’s my belief this guy single-handedly ruined the great American pastime..

The fact that I’m a lifelong Red Sox fan may have something to do with my deep animosity toward him ;)

Regardless- I hope he either goes quickly or recovers completely.

Interesting that when I worked in the Press Box at the Stadium back in the 70s, neither Steinbrenner nor Sheppard were particularly well liked by the guys I interfaced with.

George has been a little crazy but he did want to bring a winner to NY and the fans have to like that. Have read that other baseball owners, some of them actually wealtheir than george, but were unwilling to spend the money to get a good team.

RIP, Mr S.

God Bless his soul.

Most Americans never heard of him.

Another ‘breathless’ headline to keep from reporting real news.
