She was smeared by right-wing media, condemned by the NAACP, and canned by the Obama administration. It wasn't pretty, what was done this week to Shirley Sherrod.
And maybe something good can come of it. The thought occurred to me after reading her now-famous speech, which is about the power of grace and the possibility of redemption.
Here's a way to get some good. This September, when school begins, we should make the speech required viewing in the nation's high schools.

She was on tape.
Still not buying that this speech was about redemption. I believe from that video EVERYONE in the NAACP is racist.
Yawn..Peggy is so yesterday. Who cares what she thinks or writes? No-one but the Beltway ruling class.
Gosh, Peggy has so lost it.
She had been drifting rightwards lately, and I guess her invites to Beltway A-list cocktail parties must have gone down. This should get her right back in good standing with the social circuit.
Absolutely. In order to show the amen corner NAACP crowd for what they have are. The truly disturbing part of all this is how quick that crowd was to cheer for the racism that Sherrod seems to have been trying to repent from.
Her hero says people who oppose ObamaCare are racists.
Peggy probably gets a tingle up her leg being called a racist by such a wonderful person.
Peggy is exactly who this guy was talking about:

Funny how she helped trash Palin and now this. Bet she has an interesting email inbox. Although not as interesting as her winebox.
Pray for America
If I were hiring someone for a job, I wouldn’t worry about their race because that would be racist.
If I were hiring someone for a job, I wouldn’t want to know their political or ideological leanings nor would I take them into account if I were hiring them. That would also be bigoted.
What says Shirley?
I agree. We should make all the little much brains watch it. Show the mocking of the poor white farmer by the racist blacks. “One of his people... How he was superior to me.”
Oh, wait. We can’t show that part.
When I seen the first bit of video I was not too harsh on Sherrod it was the crowd taking the racial red meat. They seem to have stuck it to Andrew though who should have prefaced the release of reserving judgement till he seen the whole thing.
Is N00nan’s name on Journ0list?
Hey,Shirl, neither Obama or Jealous know your experience. Why?
They are not authentic black men!
Fixed it for you PEGGY!!!!!!!!!!
Noonan has become irrelevant.
Peggy Noonan, the opportunist.
From the speech:
"That's when it was revealed to me that, y'all, it's about poor versus those who have, and not so much about white -- it is about white and black, but it's not -- you know, it opened my eyes, 'cause I took him to one of his own and I put him in his hand, and felt okay, I've done my job.
You know, I haven't seen such a mean-spirited people as I've seen lately over this issue of health care. Some of the racism we thought was buried. Didn't it surface? Now, we endured eight years of the Bush's and we didn't do the stuff these Republicans are doing because you have a black President."
