My bet is Rangel resigns. If he accept the ethics committee punishment now, before the Republics take over the House, he can avoid criminal prosecution.

Do you think the Republicans should be calling for a Federal Investigation now or not? Of course Eric Holder would be in charge of it, so that’s a dilemma. But these aren’t just ethics violations, this is tax evasion?

He said today he has no intention of resigning.

I like that in a RAT ... Take everyone down with you.

First time I support this POS Rangel.

“My bet is Rangel resigns. If he accept the ethics committee punishment now, before the Republics take over the House, he can avoid criminal prosecution. “

He isn’t going to resign. He is going to retire and not run for another term. Do you think he wants to give up his pension, health benefits and everything he stole?

4 Republicans are going to find him guilty. 4 Democrats are going to find him innocent. The RATS do not need that in the papers, especially as it gets close to November.

this Harlem congressional district has been a wellspring of fraud, and thievery with Rangel’s predicessor being even a worse crook then Rangel. abd they kept voting this thief back into office too.....

By the mid-1960s Powell was being increasingly criticized for mismanagement of the committee budget, taking trips abroad at public expense (including travel to his retreat on the Bahamian isle of Bimini), and missing sittings of his committee. He was also under attack in his district, where his refusal to pay a slander judgment made him subject to arrest. He spent increasing amounts of time in Florida.

Following allegations that Powell had misappropriated Committee funds for his personal use (see below “Family Scandal”) and other charges including evading a subpoena in New York and failing to appear on a post judgment hearing involving the slander case he lost, in January 1967 the House Democratic Caucus stripped Powell of his committee chairmanship. The full House refused to seat him until completion of an investigation by the Judiciary Committee. Powell urged his supporters to “keep the faith, baby” while the investigation went on. On March 1 the House voted 307 to 116 to exclude him. Powell said “On this day, the day of March in my opinion, the end of the United States of America as the land of the free and the home of the brave.”[5]

Powell won the special election in April to fill the vacancy caused by his exclusion, but did not take his seat. He sued in Powell v. McCormack to retain his seat. Powell was again elected in November 1968, and on January 3, 1969, was seated as a member of the 91st Congress, but was fined $25,000 and denied seniority.[6] In June 1969 the Supreme Court ruled that the House had acted unconstitutionally when it excluded Powell, a duly elected member.[7]

Powell's absenteeism was increasingly noted. In June 1970 he was defeated in the Democratic primary by Charles B. Rangel. In fall 1970, he failed to get on the ballot for the November election as an Independent. He resigned as minister at the Abyssinian Baptist Church and moved to Bimini. Rangel has continued to represent the district, as of 2010.

The OH-13 takes in the western part of Akron and western Summitt County, some of Cleveland’s southern suburbs (but not the city itself) and Democrat parts of Lorain County (including the cities of Elyria and Lorain). It is quite Democrat-leaning—President Bush got between 42%-44% in 2000 and 2004—but the GOP has a first-tier candidate (a very wealthy auto dealer named Tom Ganley) and the district should be very competitive this November.

There are dozens of socialists licking their chops at the chance of replacing Rangel, but there is one guy who (i) is already running, (ii) has run against Rangel before, (iii) has been elected to office within the district, (iv) is half black and half Puerto Rican in a district whose electorate is around 40% black and 45% Hispanic, and (v) is the son of the long-time Congressman whom Rangel defeated by pointing out his corruption. Adam Clayton Powell IV may not be Rangel’s annointed successor, but he’ll be tough to beat in that primary.

Asking Rangel to resign is the first intelligent thing she’s done in her entire Congressional career.

BFD, resign; to his very cushy pension. I'll only be impressed when someone calls for a rope.

Yes but the serious charges are from the FEDS not the ethics committee.
