Judaism and Christianity are two very different religions, having two very different Gods. In fact, Judaism has more in common with Islam than Christianity.

The monotheism of Judaism and Islam is very similar, the montheism of Christianity is very different. Yahweh and Allah were remote, distant, impassable, deities, in Christianity, God became out savior - which is what the name Jesus means. Yah-shua, God (is become our) savior.

The type of monotheism of the Puritans was Christian, not Jewish or Islamic.

As every child of New England (aka Norumbega) already knows, the Puritans were death on wheels to Catholics, Anglicans (especially Maypole Morris Dancers), Unitarians, Baptists, and the Plymouth Bretheren, (No Virginia, the Pilgrims were NOT Puritans, and were actually pretty snappy dressers) and whipped Quakers naked through the streets of Boston, in that order. But whenever they got their hands on a rabbi, and there were quite a few Sephardic Jews hanging around, they made him a professor, as every Harvard and even Yale man at the time had to know Hebrew to properly read the OT. Just notice the place names they gave their settlements, Bethel, New Canaan, Salem, New Salem, etc. etc. etc.

The Puritans=Congregationalists=hard-nosed Calvinist= Presbyterians made their religion the state religion of their colonies ... and states. Congregationalism was the OFFICIAL religion of Massachusetts until 1820! They begrudging allowed other sects after the Revolution, BUT Congregationalism was state-supported... with tax money.

Maybe this will help. There are three names used in the New Testament to designate this people, (1.) Jews, as regards their nationality, to distinguish them from Gentiles. (2.) Hebrews, with regard to their language and education, to distinguish them from Hellenists, i.e., Jews who spoke the Greek language. (3.) In John ch 10 hes calls them "Sheep pens"...
And suggested they come out into the pasture. i.e. Psalm 23..
Actually (ekklesia;gk) the word for church means "the called out ones"..
