Rep. Paul Ryan, the fast-talking, number-crunching Republican from Wisconsin, caused a stir last week when he called out his own party for not offering Americans a substantive alternative to Democrats in this fall’s elections .
“They’re talking to their pollsters and their pollsters are saying, ‘Stay away from this. We’re going to win an election,’” Ryan said, speaking at the liberal-leaning Brookings Institution . . .
In an interview with The Daily Caller, Ryan said he was not trying to embarrass his party or his party’s leadership . . .
The 40-year old Ryan is a rising young star in the GOP. He has been named by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as one of her favorite conservative leaders, and is one of the few Republican lawmakers to hold his own in one-on-one debate with President Obama.
He is not without his critics on the right. Ryan’s conservative bona fides are viewed with skepticism by some who question why he voted for the $700 billion TARP bailout in the fall of 2008, as well as for auto bailouts and taxes on AIG bonuses in 2009. GOP Leadership is an oxymoron IMHO

That’s why we ain’t got nuthin’ yet, leadership wise. They all want to play it safe, instead of taking the mantle and setting the debate...which means taking a risk with their political careers.
“We are a decentralized party right now from a leadership standpoint. We don’t have some obvious nominee, and who knows who that’s going to be. So I just feel like it’s important for some of us to step in and help define the moment,” Ryan said.
But he added: “I’m not calling my party out … I’m just adding ideas to the pile to try and move the debate forward.”
I want him to call out the party. ;o)

Exactly.
This is not the time to be attacking other Republicans, though heaven knows there are some really terrible ones out there. Ryan should focus his efforts on standing up to the totalitarians in control in Washington. Ryan should stop being a “punching bag” for the Democrats and should focus on winning in November.
The building is on fire and in danger of being destroyed. Now is not the time to argue among ourselves about whether the fire engines are shiny enough.

Hold his own?? He dismantled Obama during that ‘townhall’ discussion or whatever it was supposed to be.
The GOP problem especially among the “more left leaning” is the desire to be all things to all people. There are far too many in the GOP leadership who are big govt politicians. Just wait. They take back the House and get close or capture the Senate they are going to head right back to their same old ways if we don’t watch them. Personally I’d rather they not take complete control in the Senate especially if it means bringing in Kirk and Castle to the Rhino caucus. Sometimes it is better to lose than to have the lines blurred. Republicans need to be the party of the founders and the founding principles. They need to stop being ashamed. So what you have whining masses who you won’t ever win over? Poll after poll has shown that American’s want self govt, they want the govt to stop spending. The GOP if they actually stuck to a simple pro liberty pro founding message in a generation they’d have a new crop of young adults who were raised hearing and respecting patriotic principles. Instead the GOP leadership wants to play it safe.

He is among my top five. He has offered solutions, he has articulated a plan forward. One of the hardest working men in Washington. Hats off to Congressman Ryan.
Ryan Is right and The Republicans will not gain Control Of Either House because they are Not Leading ,their Strategy is silence the People will vote for us because they are Mad ,where else are they going to go. Well they can all go to Hell
Leadership? Boehner and McConnell, come on is this the best the GOP can do! Not an original idea has ever emanated from either of their skulls.
I like congressman Ryan and I strongly dislike RINOS or any liberals. My point was why is Ryan making speeches attacking Republicans at a time when the Democrats are destroying our country. His time and effort would be better spent standing up for the Americans whose livelihoods are being destroyed.
The article said that the Democrats are using Ryan as a “punching bag”. Why doesn’t he punch back?
Every politician is trying to jump in front of the american tea party parade in order to claim the “throne”.
They forget too quickly.
In this rebelion, the politicians ARE the tea.
