Democrats who reluctantly slashed a food stamp program to fund a state aid bill may have to do so again to pay for a top priority of first lady Michelle Obama.
The House will soon consider an $8 billion child nutrition bill that’s at the center of the first lady’s “Let’s Move” initiative. Before leaving for the summer recess, the Senate passed a smaller version of the legislation that is paid for by trimming the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly known as food stamps.
The proposed cuts would come on top of a 13.6 percent food stamp reduction in the $26 billion Medicaid and education state funding bill that President Obama signed this week.
Food stamps have made multiple appearances on the fiscal chopping block because Democrats have few other places to turn to offset the cost of legislation.
Party leaders raided the budget to find off-setting tax increases and spending cuts to pay for their top legislative priorities, including the roughly $900 billion healthcare law. Congressional pay-as-you-go rules require lawmakers to offset all non-emergency spending.

This should prove to the idiots out there who worship the ground the DEMS walk on,that they aren’t for the working class. Many have lost their jobs and have had to turn to food stamps to put food on their tables. Yet, the fat cat unions are taking the food right out of their kid’s mouths.
Shameful that some will vote these scumbags back into office just because they have a D after their name, and after all - they are the party of the poor.
Yeah, right! The teachers and other unions will continue to eat high on the hog with their food money! Republicans should be all over this, but, I hear crickets.
Last week I was behind a young lady sporting a new tattoo and extolling the virtues of her new Iphone4 while paying for her groceries with a Food Stamp card. If she could afford a tattoo and Iphone4 does she need food stamps. Perhaps a review is in order and the dinero could be used for other purposes.
Bullshit. The Rats will NEVER cut a single nickel from social programs.
The cuts in Food Stamps are a year or two down the road. When the time comes to restore those cuts, they will demagogue the new Republican majority who will be portrayed as wanting to starve the poor.

Slightly off topic but we had a similar experience while on vacation in SW FL last month. We were at the state park beach when this guy started talking to us. It was a WEEK DAY and he had been working on his tan. He told us how he’s been unemployed for nearly 3 years now; we both bit our tongues since you’d think his priority would have been to pound the pavement looking for work vs. his tan lines. Anyway, he asked where we were from and when I said AR he replied “I would rather die than never move inland”. Sorry to tell the dude but we didn’t pick AR b/c we loved the geography, I would have loved to live near a beach too but a good job brought us here. Afterwards I told my husband “bet that was an obama voter”.
I have an easier idea how about we put a list in place of things foodstamps can’t apy for like pop,junk food,candy,convience foods, and anything that is under X nutritional value.Then watch them scream!
