University must release Palin contract
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 8/26/10 | Nanette Asimov, Chronicle Staff Writer

California State University at Stanislaus and its private foundation violated public records laws and will have to release the speakers contract with Sarah Palin they had tried to keep secret, a judge has ruled.

The details of Palin's contract to speak at a June 25 fundraiser for the foundation became national news last spring after foundation officials refused to tell state Sen. Leland Yee, D-San Francisco, how much Palin would be paid. Yee has been trying to change a state law that shields campus foundations from public scrutiny.

The Palin story grew more bizarre in April after students found discarded pieces of the secret contract in a Dumpster on the property of the public university - after university officials told Yee and CalAware, an open-government group, that they didn't have any of Palin-related documents.

The Judiciary is so far lost in this country. This is ridiculous. One branch is more out of control than the next.

Have the liberals ever dug through trash to find info about Bill Clinton’s speaking fees? Or speaking fees paid to any non-conservative speaker?

And has a lawsuit ever been filed to force anyone to release information about Bill Clinton’s speaking fees? Just wondering.....................

Only a Progressive Fascist judge, or a Progressive Fascist "Jourolist", could think the above statement anything but insane nonsense.

This is really funny, in view of everything we've been hearing about average pay for federal workers being double their private counterparts, the Obama's profligate vacation spending, the 37 billion in funds recently dishonestly procured for teacher's pensions, 800 billion in pork spent "saving jobs", etc etc.

These leftwingers are truly deranged.

The subtext is that booking a conservative speaker, especially one with Wasilla connections, is foolish and a waste of money.

Wow, sounds like there was a really heavy political motivated investigation going on, if they dove into the dumpster to find stuff?

I’m going to enjoy reading the contracts of all the lefties who ever spoke at a college in the UC/CSU system. How do we start?

California State University

Yee has been trying to change a state law that shields campus foundations from public scrutiny.

This has nothing to do with Palin, she's merely the magnet that drew attention to this mess. The taxpayers have a right to know who, and how much of their tax dollars are being spent at a State University. The taxpayers own the buildings, the campus and should have the final say about everything that happens on their property. This applies equally to Palin, as it would to Louis Farrakhan.

Those who would criticize publishing the details on Palin, but demand these same details on Louis Farrakhan are simply hypocrites. The laws that confine us, should confine everyone else too.

Sure of course. And Hillary was allowed to hide her thesis and the One was allowed to hide his birth record and it goes on and on.

Except that it is a private foundation, dedicated to raising funds for the university, that brought her in to speak. If the school itself had done so, you'd be absolutely right, but there's no justification for forcing a private group to do so.

Many students find ‘treasures’ while dumpster diving. My first couch came out of dumpster. It was in used - but nearly perfect condition.

2 cans of carpet cleaning foam, and 10 minutes with a vacuum cleaner and you would have sworn I paid $150 for it from a consignment furniture store.

I say we start drafting up contracts for having Nancy Pelosi come and speak at 8/28 and start littering the streets of DC with them... she can pay us $1.4 Trillion to speak.

You are right, of course, and that’s the element of this that, in a parallel universe, would come back to bite the Palin-bashers. Should it be applied to others.

Never fear, tho. Like the Massachusetts legislature changing the law so Mitt could not appoint a fill-in to the Senate, then changing it back so a Dem guv could appoint to fill Ted Kennedy’s seat. All laws are not equally confining. But some laws are more equally confining than others.

A private foundation ceases to be ‘private’ when they involve a taxpayer funded organization.

Would you allow the California Pedophile Nazi party to use the campus to hold their fundraisers? Well, the Democrats us it anyway - but you see the point.
