Pat must have found The One Ring. He’s turning into Gollum. Watch out when he starts referring to “My Precious”.
I worked on this idiot’s campaign before the 96 primary. While working, one of our precinct wardens disappeared and one other guy took over. I called the lead guy for the state to ask what happened, and he gasped at the new guys name.
“THAT’S A DAVID DUKE SUPPORTER!”
I repeated that to a lower level guy in town, and he told me he agreed with David Duke and that is why he supports Pat Buchanan.
I immediately quit the campaign.
I'm not surprised at Herr Deutsch, but Herr Buchanan???
Sounds like the people over at Democratic Underground.
Sometimes, once in awhile, I get the hope and feeling that even they are coming to their senses.
Then the hopes are dashed of course. I should have learned by now, but hopes springs eternal I suppose :/
I arrived where you are a couple of years ago.
Welcome to the club.
You know, if the pastor had suggested buring the Torah, Uncle Pat might have offered to provide the lighter fluid.
Does anyone believe 10% of conservatives would support Obama overnight, is he high?
1- First of all, you would have nearly every conservative suddenly standing up for this charlatan pastor's First Amendment rights.
2- Buchanan has NO political sense. He is the same guy who thought his Culture Wars speech was going to propel him into the White House.
You can’t simply blame the media.
Obama started it all when he nationalized the debate on the Ground Zero mosque.
Petraeus threw gas on the fire when he brought up the Koran burning.
The Republicans ought to keep the pressure on the White House and not get distracted one way or the other.
Strange Sequel: During the 7:30 half-hour, Morning Joe brought Pastor Jones in via a live feed from Florida. However, after Jon Meachem, citing the New Testament, pleaded with Jones as a fellow Christian to desist from his plan, Mika abruptly ended the interview without giving Jones the chance to reply. “We really don’t need to hear anything else,” said Mika, as the Florida feed was cut.
I’m flabbergasted Buchanan would take that position.
(and I like your sig - it applies to how this hits me)
Thinking about it, I see only two possible explanations. Neither of which I like very much:
1) Pat has caved. He’s trying to appear “moderate” by jumping on the anti-Pastor bandwagon. He saw Palin take the position that burning any book is bad, he’s trying to go beyond “me too”, so he’s taking a stand one step beyond that.
Problem with that is - when did Buchanan ever concern himself with being moderate?
Which leaves only possibility 2) He’s not concerned with our Bill of Rights, his “conservativism” is not based on a love of freedom, but rather a simpleton’s stuck focus on doing what he can to enforce his view of what is right and wrong, upon citizens.
That’s a position hostile to everything this FReeper believes in.
Pat needs to climb down from this stupid position FAST.
Or he’s just gone beyond the pale.
I was Buchanan’s Fifth Congressional District assistan campaign manager in the 1996 Louisiana caucuses. We won.

At one time, Pat had some good ideas, but now he’s become just another beltway blowhard. He sold his soul for opportunity to be on TV.
Sad.
Can’t help but wonder if Pat B. would with as much zeal, call for the arrest and imprisonment of the Ground Zero Mosque imam
to prevent the building of that blasphemous victory mosque?
Retorical —I know— but had to ask.
Well if we are going to throw the Pastor in prison, what about the Imam? I find the Imam to be a bigger threat. Until he proves where the money is coming from to build the mosque, explain his anti-American rants and his statement of retaliation if the mosque is not built, why not put him in prison. I am sure he will sing like a bird. Our Government has a right to protect us not feed the enemy. And before some of you start yelling about the Imam’s Constitutional Rights, the protection of the American people is also a Constitutional Right.
Right. Because we conservatives believe in arresting people when no crime has been committed.
You get a pass in this case. Accurate description.
Neither libertarians nor liberals understand freedom of speech. Both would fight for to the death to defend Rev Jones if he wanted to burn bibles.
I seem to recall one Wm.Federer who writes in his history of Islam and America that the bloody Muslims has an easier time taking Spain—because theirs is a religion and military/and political system and the basis is not peace but war. The Ground Zero Imam knows most Americans would prefer to surrender-than to defend our Country.I called the White
House to say I would not burn a Koran-it only fouls the air like that call to evening prayer the President so loves—the
old girl was not amused at my analogy.
Huh?
Libertarians are about freedom.
Sometimes too much. Though arguably, there’s no such thing as too much freedom.
(above reference to libertarians is upper-case, only because it’s the first word in the sentence - speaking here first person, about small-l libertarians)
