Greatest mass murderer in history....”Rachel Carson”.....

I disagree, murder requires intent, and she did not intend for tens of millions of people to die because of her screed against DDT. The fact is, she knew little of science, or anything else, for that matter. I thing she was used by the nascent left wing environmental movement to gain traction with the general public by creating an monster they could tie to “evil” corporations, the third world be damned.
I’m not saying tens of millions of people didn’t die as a result of the ban on DDT, they did, but I think she was more of a dupe in the scheme of things. That’s my opinion anyway.

Mao’s name has long been in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s greatest killer. Back when I was a kid, the number was listed as 25 million. I guess that we just need to revise the number upward.

Pardon my ignorance, but how did Rachel Carson kill more than Mao?

Gotta disagree. Mao just had more warm bodies available to kill. When it comes to mass murder, Pol Pot killed more of his own people than anyone in history by a wide margin.

After a while it almost doesn’t matter how many. Members of my extended family have survived Japanese occupation, the 1949 “Liberation,” the Great Leap Forward, and the Cultural Revolution. During the Great Leap, they often saw the dead lying on the road and “eating” meant a meal of watery rice broth with a piece of bark and insects. Their big “treat” were rats captured chewing on a corpse.

Chinnghis Quan? Not even close. Although he and his son and grandsons were the great “clean up hitters” of their time.

I agree- Rachel Carson. If you are going to attribute “policy” deaths to Mao, you should know that there are 3-5 million malaria deaths each year and the DDT ban has been in affect for enough decades to make Rachel Carson the responsible for more deaths than Mao.
