A Greenwich Village resident was socked with an eye-popping 25 percent increase in health premiums -- and his insurance company is slapping part of the blame on President Obama's health-care overhaul that took effect yesterday.

Doug Gowland's monthly bill will jump $140 -- from $565 to $705 -- under the hike, according to a letter he received from insurer EmblemHealth.

And the annual cost for the self-insured 62-year-old man's mostly bare-bones plan will increase $1,680 -- from $6,780 to $8,460.

In the notice, EmblemHealth told Gowland, who is healthy, "The proposed rate increase includes two components: a basic increase on your type plan and an increase due to the cost of enhanced benefits required by the new federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act."

Repeal the DeathCare intended to destroy our health care and thus allow Big Brother to decide who lives and who dies!

I am 57 and my health insurance went from $510 per month to $775 a month. My deductible was moved from $1000 to $5000. I called several companies and this was the best I could get.

I’m shocked, shocked I say, that socialist legislation has unintended consequences. This is surprising and unexpected.

The whole problem with health care all along was the escalating cost of health care insurance premiums. Those democrats are just wizards at solving problems.

But Pelosi said you could quit your job and work on your art or your book and still be covered for your health care, remember?

They weren’t unintended... they were intended. This perverted “legislation” was written in a way that health insurers would have no choice but raise premiums, thereby giving these demonic socialists the opportunity to once again blame the “evil capitalists” for raising costs. It is intended to destroy the healthcare industry, plain and simple.

I would argue these are the ‘intended’ consequences.

First they came for medical insurance assets. I was young and healthy so I did nothing.

Then they came for home-owners insurance assets. I was young and I rented, so I did nothing.

Then they came for stop-loss liability insurance assets. I was young and owned no business, so I did nothing.

Then they came for auto insurance assets. That’s when I drew the line.

At the very end of the article EmblemHealth admits the new mandates are only responsible for a small portion of the premium increases, but the letter they sent out made it sound like the recent Obama-care manadates were entirely responsible for them. Too bad for democrats. They got themselves into this. At some point in the future under Obama-care healthy young men will have to pay (in their premiums) for tests and treatments related to women's reproductive services.

“even if we repealed the health Care Bill the insurance companies are not going to go back to their previous rates.”

I don't know about that. Some upstart company will come along and undercut them since without the mandates they can offer lower rates. Or, I can see companies offering choices ... want no lifetime cap and insure junior until age 26, pay mega bucks ... want something more limited, pay a more reasonable rate.

If the free market is allowed to have at it, I think rates would come down.
