Poor Mara Liasson.
The benignly liberal Fox News contributor is a dead duck now that NPR has suddenly discovered the passage in its Code of Ethics that NPR journalists should not participate in shows that encourage punditry and speculation rather than fact-based analysis.
Or maybe not.
NPR is so mixed up in its handling of the Juan Williams fiasco that maybe theyll give Ms. Liasson a pass further compounding their disastrous public relations handling of the whole mess.
NPR fall gal in this media firestorm is President and CEO Vivian Schiller, whose internal memo about Le Affair Juan is a textbook lesson in how not to conduct effective public relations in time of turmoil.
Heres how the besieged Ms. Schiller embroiled herself in this no-win P.R. imbroglio.
First, she leapt to a conclusion without examining the consequences
Following after Mr. Williams Muslim comments Monday night on "The OReilly Factor," he was fired on Wednesday night. We did not feel it would responsible to delay the action, Ms. Schiller explained to the staff.
Why not? Because the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) complained?

Uh, oh - it sounds like NPR has discovered the penumbra and emanations in its rules for suspected leftist collaborators of Fox News.
As is the case with Juan Williams, I rarely agree with Mara Liasson, but I respect her for being a principled Liberal who articulates her opinions without dropping into the gutter. NPR has declared war on its most credible correspondents, while the really hateful ones continue on their way.

That is so true
I just want to take a moment here, as I chanced upon this thread, and say how very happy I am over the flap over this incident.
As my man Rush says, the liberals don’t want us to know who they REALLY are.
And this event, timed so very well right before the historic landslide midterm elections, is doing such a good job at showing who liberals are.
It’s things like this that have me pondering that God really does love America.
Here’s hoping that Juan learns a lesson as well. Of all the people for NPR to do this to, Juan Williams is probably one of the few liberals that conservatives really have a fondness for. Sure, he’s a liberal, but you feel on some level that he really believes what he says.
NPR is owned by Arab money....this flap is proof of this.
What a blessing this has been for this country.
If they fire Mara Liasson it becomes even more obvious that Juan was fired for being at Fox. I doubt they do that.
Here's how the besieged Ms. Schiller embroiled herself in this no-win P.R. imbroglio. First, she leapt to a conclusion without examining the consequencesSchiller should be made to suffer the consequences and be summarily fired, as should those whom she points out as the jackoffs who also pushed the idea with her. The carrot -- sacking them, and rehiring Juan Williams, would keep NPR from losing government funding and any tax-exempt status it has. Otherwise, both are GONE for GOOD.
If people are gonna get fired for criticizing Jews they should be fired for criticizing other religions as well.
Do you think they would have fired him if had been an analyst at ABC, CBS, CNN, or MSNBC? No way
Watching and listening to CEO Vivian Schiller try to justify the firing of Juan Williams made several points clear to me:
