Corrine Brown campaign offers free meals for early voters (Election law experts say it's illegal)

A flyer distributed by U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown’s office promised “a complimentary coupon” for a meal at an Orlando restaurant to “the first 350 to vote” at an early voting site on Friday, sparking the latest charge in the contentious race in Florida’s Third Congressional District.

The Brown campaign also used a taped phone message from the candidate to push the offer to people in her district, in which she asks people to “early vote and receive a coupon to have lunch with us at Mama Nems Restaurant.”

While Brown’s campaign manager said the Democratic congresswoman did nothing wrong, two legal experts said there could be a federal campaign violation.

James J. Woodruff II, an assistant professor at Florida Coastal School of Law and an expert in election law, said offering an incentive to vote crosses a legal line.

“Federal law prohibits vote buying in any election where a federal candidate is on the ballot,” he said “[Brown] may have a violation.”

Paul S. Ryan, an attorney at the nonpartisan Campaign Legal Center in Washington, came to a similar conclusion.

“If this is tied to the campaign, it would appear to be a violation of federal law,” Ryan said. “It’s a pretty serious violation. It is illegal to give someone an inducement to cast their vote.”

Here’s a novel idea... stop talking about how illegal it is and start prosecuting without delay.

It’s not even a close call, regardless of there being no specific request to vote for a particular candidate. In my fantasy world, her votes would not be counted.

Some things never change. I volunteered in Jacksonville in 2004, and Corrine Brown was there well inside the polling limits campaigning.

Wanna know how Corrine Brown continues to get elected??

Find a diagram of her EXTREMELY gerrymandered district.

It should be in the Guinness Book of World Records.

It would take you a week of 12 hour days and at least 5 fill-ups of a 20 gallon gas tank to deliver food to everybody in her district, as long as you also had at least a $500 dollar and up GPS unit to work with.

No fan of the Browne slut, but this pales in comparison to the kegs of rum and corn likker that used to be rolled out in the nineteenth century. They made election day an all day party, a celebration you might say, back when America was young.

There are still places in the south where food, beer etc. are found at polling places. Outside the required distance and for ALL voters, usually it doesn’t say party that provides it. I think in some places it’s an attitude, like voting/picnic day :)

Vince McMahon from WWE got a notice from the Department of Justice to stop his want to give WWE T shirts out at some polling places in CT. He was going to follow the guidelines, out of 75 ft back from the polling place. Linda McMahon is running against Blumenthal for Senate to fill Dodd’s seat in Connecticut.
WOW the WWE got shut down fast from the US Justice Dept fast.
I was surprised how fast the U.S Justice Dept. reaacted to him and not in Nevada where Reid was giving out free meal tickets and gift cards to stores like KMart.

Demos cannot break their habit of giving away free stuff. Too bad it’s taxpayer’s money most of the time.

--------------------------

Time to draw the lines and decide just where everyone stands once and for all.

Democrat controlled states are violating the MOVE Act. (Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act)

Nothing says anarchy quite like a ruling elite that decides on its whim whether to prosecute the laws as written. And then, only to protect some of the people that it favors.

Yeah, I had no idea her district was like that. Racial gerrymandering at its best.

Yup, sanctioned by the Voting Rights Act and enforced by the U.S. “Just-Us” Department.

“Federal law prohibits vote buying in any election where a federal candidate is on the ballot,” he said “[Brown] may have a violation.”

May have? MAY HAVE?

WTF?
