A 27-year-old Carroll Valley man told police he opened fire on a Pennsylvania wildlife conservation officer Thursday night because he is a convicted felon and did not want to go back to prison for illegally possessing a firearm, according to court documents filed Friday.
Following a nightlong manhunt, Christopher Lynn Johnson was in police custody by 9:40 a.m. Friday, and by Friday night was at jailed Adams County prison with prosecutors saying he is likely to face the death penalty for allegedly killing wildlife conservation officer David Grove, 31, of Fairfield.
Adams County District Attorney Shawn Wagner said Johnson will face charges including first-degree murder for allegedly killing a law-enforcement officer intentionally.

The Perpetrator (caught spotlighting and shooting a deer with a .22 rifle, which precipitated the murder)
The Victim---Wildlife Conservation Officer David L. Grove
Put the bastard in a jail with a sturdy hook in the ceiling and a piece of rope.
Try him.
Convict him.
Fry him.
And hope that he uses the rope and hook early on to end the insane process we have of keeping scumbags alive.
Fire up the chair!
I see: he wanted to go back to prison for capital murder of a LEO, instead of just for illegally possessing a firearm...
Alleged shooter's family members in disbelief
"He wouldn't go and do something like this," one sister said.
Sorry, the jails are too full of potheads to keep mere armed robbers locked up. Didn’t you know we’ve declared War On Some Drugs?
...this vicious killer needs to pay with his life.
PS...Adams Co PA is where Gettysburg is located...last time I visited the battlefield it was under attack by herds of deer...no kidding...a park service ranger told me they were very concerned.
I don’t support the caste system, and therefore, higher penalties for killing an officer over a citizen. Both are equally wrong. Furthermore, I think judges and others involved should face criminal liability, specifically reckless endangerment, criminal negligence and negligent homicide, in addition to civil liability, for the consequences of releasing scum like this back into society. The 50th time isn’t a charm. When dangerous people like this are behind bars (or pushing up daisies) the rest of us don’t need gun laws like the one that would have sent him back to prison, which he killed to avoid.
The deer herd has since been thinned out by a special team of hunters contracted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. They came in a couple of years ago, and using night vision goggles and rifles equipped with silencers (to avoid disturbing local residents after dark), took care of the problem. The deer meat was donated to food banks and charities.
He was simply mis-understood!
I would like to see a bit more on this trick.
A heavy slug with some energy that is transferred to his wrist? A tree? A .45 should not fire with any mechanical pressure on the muzzle.
If angle of reflection equals angle of incident , want to be very steady here?
The muzzle blast may bite?
He didn't think he was killing a law enforcement officer. He thought the man he was killing was "just a game warden." Or words to that effect. (He's quoted in the linked article).
It isn’t that the officers life is worth more, it’s that it’s an attack on an LEO is an attack on our legal system.
For example; I expect LEO’s to be held to a higher standard of behavior than the average citizen because LEO’s represent the law, citizens do not.
Fitting; this freak wants to look like Timothy McVeigh, he can fry like Timothy McVeigh...
The System of Lords is, first, to protect The System of the Lords. I'm opposed.
For example; I expect LEOs to be held to a higher standard of behavior than the average citizen because LEOs represent the law, citizens do not.
I think there's ample evidence they are held to a lower standard. Lots of questionable shootings are "good shoots." The officer in Oakland who shot and killed an already-handcuffed, on-the-ground suspect, because he "thought he was going for his taser" but pulled out his gun instead, got 2 years. Government agents also have immunity in a lot of cases. That ain't a "higher standard."
That is the public school/mainstreet media line....in reality, a SYSTEM cannot be attacked.
ANY crime against the property or body of another person is an attack on civilization --- root word, civil. Those who cannot be civil, must be eliminated from civilization.
I abhor the system that says killing a member of the "special group" means greater punishment.
They are often held to a lower standard.
I said they OUGHT to be held to a higher standard, as they guard the moral boudaries we as a society have set.
Who wants to bet me that both of these sisters will or already have married someone just like their brother???
Like follows like.
Birds of a feather......
This guy should have been in jail for life long before now. 50 convictions????
WTF?????
I listen to the radio at work on the computer via a radio station in York, PA, so I heard a good deal about this story.
I’m glad they caught this SOB.
