Legislation that could make Pennsylvania more of a player in deciding the Republican and Democratic presidential nominees moved out of the House State Government Committee on Wednesday. The Senate-passed bill would move the commonwealth’s primary date to the third Tuesday of March in presidential election years rather than the fourth Tuesday of April, when it is currently held. Legendary Intel executive Andy Grove, who transformed the company into a chip-making powerhouse and helped drive the personal computer boom, has died. He was 79. Although Grove wasn't technically a founding member of Intel (Gordon Moore and Robert Noyce were the company's two co-founders), he was present at the company's incorporation in 1968. A 27-year-old Carroll Valley man told police he opened fire on a Pennsylvania wildlife conservation officer Thursday night because he is a convicted felon and did not want to go back to prison for illegally possessing a firearm, according to court documents filed Friday. WALNUT GROVE, Minn. - A 31-year-old woman was found dead in a Walnut Grove apartment when Redwood County sheriff's officers responded to an assault report yesterday afternoon. Authorities say the woman apparently had been beaten, but an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. The victim's name hasn't been released. A male suspect in the case was found hiding in a wooded area and is being held in Redwood County Jail pending a court appearance.

The news seemed odd: Cottage Grove Police Chief John Mickelson crashed his Ford Explorer in Lakeville in the middle of the night, left the scene and didn't meet with law enforcement officers until half a day later. Yet Mickelson's attorney maintains the chief needed medical help and was justified in going to the hospital before meeting in person with investigators.
