US spy chief's 'highly unusual' reported contact with military official raises concerns

James Clapper said to have frequent communication with military official who is said to be implicated in a Pentagon inquiry into manipulated intelligence

Barack Obama’s intelligence chief is said to be in frequent and unusual contact with a military intelligence officer at the center of a growing scandal over rosy portrayals of the war against the Islamic State, the Guardian has learned.

James Clapper, the director of national intelligence, is said to talk nearly every day with the head of US Central Command’s intelligence wing, Army Major General Steven Grove – “which is highly, highly unusual”, according to a former intelligence official.

Grove is said to be implicated in a Pentagon inquiry into manipulated war intelligence.

In communications, Clapper, who is far more senior than Grove, is said to tell Grove how the war looks from his vantage point, and question Grove about Central Command’s assessments. Such a situation could place inherent pressure on a subordinate, sources said.

Knowledgeable former officials are doubtful that Clapper directly intends to manipulate intelligence. And they do not say that the director of national intelligence – who apologized to his Senate overseers in 2013 for publicly misleading Congress on the scope of domestic surveillance – ordered Grove or anyone else to change the command’s assessment of the war.

The useful idiot stooge, Clapper, who heads up the illegal NSA activities and lies about it now appears to be helping his boss lie about the epic failure of Obama's ISIS strategy

The strategy was doomed from the beginning. Instead of utilizing highly trained, highly disciplined US troops, their entire strategy was to arm rebels and terrorist. Who in their right mind would think such a policy would improve conditions in the Middle East ? Now we have civilization running away in abject terror from what this absurd failed policy has delivered.

The strategy was doomed from the beginning.

From a military perspective, yes. However, Obama's strategy is all about smoke and mirrors, feigning decisive action while doing just enough to be able to pretend he does more -all this to bolster his propaganda efforts.

>> Clapper, who heads up the illegal NSA activities and lies about it

Enough with the NSA being the scapegoat for the backstabbing assclowns that claim to represent us.

The NSA is a machine, albeit a formidable machine, but principally no different than the handgun.

The anti-NSA bravado is total bullshit to me.

A machine, very much like a handgun, except it’s made up of people. Some good and some bad. Some with political aspirations and some not. Some are lazy but not all.

Most will do what they’re told regardless of whether it’s legal, or ethical, or even effective.

The NSA is run by the military and was chartered to collect foreign intelligence abroad. Today it spies on American citizens in violation of its limits set by the Patriot Act and as such effectively violate the Posse Comitatus Act.

The NSA "machine" is operating illegally. It's illegal operations should be stopped asap.
