Like it or Not: Mexico is Americas Next Afghanistan
It's time to 'man up' and face a fact that most politicians know, but few care to admit. Posted by LaborUnionReport (Profile)

With the exception of, perhaps, Texas governor Rick Perry, no public official wants to publicly admit an obvious fact: The United States of America will likely be forced to invade Mexico. Its not a matter of if, its a matter of when. The question then becomes: What to do with Mexico after we invade it and wipe out the drug cartels (as much as can be). Does the United States merely return Mexico to a nation state of corrupt politicians, failed economic policies, and lawlessness, or do we annex Mexico and turn it into the 51st state?

I see no need to invade Mexico. A fully militarized border will work nicely.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Mexico legalize drug use?
Legitimize criminal behavior? You a politician in Washington perhaps? Maybe Chicago?
Mexico would be much easier to invade being it is right next door, many of us know the language, it’s relatively flat, more developed, and less hostile.
We’d be in and out in a year. (if done right)
Mexico has some of the strictest gun rights in the world.
Build the wall, give the Mexican people all the guns they want and let THEM fight the damn cartels.
Just keep the criminal Mexicans out - and they are all criminal when they cross our border without permission whether they are drug cartel members or not.
Mexico ranks 11th in GDP: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_between_U.S._states_and_countries_by_GDP_%28PPP%29
(these Wikipedia stats are from the US Dept of Commerce)
The Mexican middle class is booming and expanding: http://www.paymentsnews.com/2006/03/mexicos_middle_.html
(I’ll look around from a more recent article. I spent a month in Guadalajara last year and the country was hopping.)
Take a trip there (away from the border towns) sometime and see it for yourself.
The border needs to be a series of long skinny military training bases....US Govt property.
No need to invade, just let them come to us to die. Meanwhile, a huge deportation and cartel-sweep effort needs to commence in the Southwest.
Once repatriated, the illegals would not return.
In other words, nothing's changed for a century.
How do you sort them out? There are innocents in Mexico.
and then turning the whole shebang into a State
No thanks.
“The last time the US invaded Mexico was in 1845.”
Check your history again. We invaded with an expeditionary force led by Gen Black Jack Pershing in 1916 after Pancho Villa attacked Columbus New Mexico.
More like 6 centuries.
It benefited Mexico and hurt the United States...badly.
Can't really say the American middle class is expanding, can you?
And as far as unemployment in Mexico, they have a solution for their unemployed millions: send them North, use them as an invading army.
Pershing used Dodges for the most part, didn’t he? And then Woody Wilson sent the navy to Veracruz. also in 1916 I believe.
Considering the enormous costs, both in material and human lives, it would be much wiser to invest heavily in a secure border rather than launch an invasion.
Who the hell wants Mexico’s problems anyway?
You are right. Just place the military on the border and shoot all the cartel members that try to cross. They have to come into the country to deliver the drugs. Take no prisoners just lock and load.
I take the word of my aunt and uncle, who live in El Paso and run a shop in Juarez. That city has been a war zone for a while now.
Building a successful, secure wall would be a heck of a lot less expensive than an invasion. And less expensive than daily adding more and more illegals to our welfare roles, paying their health care, fighting the criminals who come, keeping them from smuggling drugs and guns, etc.
Unfortunately, both parties Washington are too enamoured with the idea of having these people as voters. Yet, how they get the right to vote when they are illegal immigrants is something else...but no one does anything about that either. Our country is under siege, actually, by the drug cartels and illegal immigrants.
Actually there is a point to make: the two Mexican revolutions -- 1811 and 1910 -- were supposed to solve the problems inflicted on them by the Spaniard Conquistadors.
In both cases things just got worse.
If Mexico was not next door to the U.S., and protected by it, they would have been invaded long ago. Just think: we could have ended up with Nouveau France Sud next door.
Say whatcha want about the French, woulda been a lot better...
The future for them is of course more of the same. If the U.S. simply stands by, someone - like the Chinese - will fill the vacuum. Left to its own devices, Mexico collapses. It goes back to third world status. Which will make it a target for its resources.
