Conservative Organizations Slam Law Center for Labeling Them 'Hate' Groups

By Stephen Clark

Published December 24, 2010 | FoxNews.com

Conservative groups and lawmakers are firing back at the Southern Poverty Law Center for releasing a new report labeling some mainstream conservative organizations as "hate groups" for their opposition to gay marriage.

In its latest report, the center added 18 "anti-gay groups" to its list of active hate organizations, including Concerned Women for America, the Traditional Values Coalition, the Family Research Council and the National Organization for Marriage.

They join the center's list of more than 900 hate groups, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, skinheads, white nationalists, neo-Confederates, and black separatists like the New Black Panther Party and the Nation of Islam.

"Even as some well-known anti-gay groups like Focus on the Family moderate their views, a hard core of smaller groups, most of them religiously motivated, have continued to pump out demonizing propaganda aimed at homosexuals and other sexual minorities," the report reads. "These groups' influence reaches far beyond what their size would suggest, because the 'facts' they disseminate about homosexuality are often amplified by certain politicians, other groups and even news organizations."

The Southern Poverty Law Center has been upset with us since the days when we outed one of their supposed investigators as a pedophile.

Far as I'm concerned all the people currently associated with that group should be thought of first as pedophiles, and second as conmen.

Otherwise some of their work has been useful ~ like ascertaining how organizations spelled their own names.

“I really think we could use another incarnation of the House Un-American Activities Committee.”

Such a thing is no longer possible for conservatives to pull off. We’ll have to rely on Glen and Rush and their ilk to keep us informed. I can, however, see liberals “investigating” tea partiers. At a Tea Party event last year, men I can only describe as black-uniformed, battle-armored, goons in a Homeland Security van photographed us with one of those giant digital face ID cameras.

In my opinion the Tea Partiers represent the very best and noblest Americans. I assure you Eric Holder disagrees. If anybody is being investigated now for un-American ideas, they are most likely Tea Partiers, not communists.

The Sothern Poverty Law Center is basically a Hate Group itself. They hate anything that stands for America and does not promote socialism, perversions or something else to destroy America.

I’m surprised that the SPLC hasn’t tagged Free Republic yet to go on it’s list.

I recently read a thread at the DUmp where some of its members were advocating for exactly that.

I’m sure they were. Another organization that I’m suprised hasn’t made the SPLC’s list is the Boy Scouts of America.

Southern Poverty Law Center is the only group that should be on such a list. IMHO

These newly designated hate groups should add this to their web site home page:
Proud as heck to be considered a "hate group" by the radical, far left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center.

I’m sure they’re also going to be adding the Catholic Church and The Pope to the list for the same reason.

SPLC is a hate group if you apply their own definition to them.

A long time ago, I used to like Dees for the way he was "waging war" against the KKK. But much like the NAACP and the ADL, the SPLC has gone around the bend and become nothing more than a hard left front group.

“Where do these people get their money from, anyway?”

Bill O’Reilly’s a member I think. Or maybe that’s Rainbow-Push. He’s a member of one such group.

Amen! And the BEST way to do that is to educate as many people as possible about how their own tax dollars are being spent for this "propaganda" and the agenda behind it.

And--absolutely imperative--is providing a counter-balance to what is being taught to our children.

I feel the churches--not just those who are "Chrinos"--but true Bible-based churches need to stop "giving ground" to the Enemy (the Prince of this world--as Paul terms him) who is using these Left wing groups to advance his agenda against the true God--and all who trust and believe in Him!

I've no doubt you are correct on that count.

Why don't Conservative groups just label the Southern Poverty Law Center a hate group?

It should not be that hard to do some "research", "studies", "statistics", and "reports" -issue a memo, a press release and VOILA!

It is only because of the Marxist media that anyone listens to these people at all, or any of the other Marxist orgs or spokespeople.

Most people haven’t looked past the news flash to determine who these people really are and what their agenda is. The media says their opinions count for something, and the sheep follow suit.

In a perfect world, these people don't get any government grants. And they wouldn't get any media attention.

Because nobody would believe the crap they're spewing.

Who listens to them anyway.........

Fewer listen as they overreach with their accusations. As the KKK and other real racist organizations faded SPLC had to branch out to maintain their donations. They are getting worse.

The are reaching farther and farther from their beginnings. They have taken money from Soros and are more openly an organ of the left.

Southern Poverty Law Center

"Fund raising, assets & program expenses

As of October 2008, the group's net assets were $170,240,129. Chief Counsel Morris Dees was paid $273,132 and the President and CEO, Richard Cohen, was paid $290,193. Total revenue in 2007 was $44,727,257 and program expenses were $20,804,536. In other words, they raised twice as much they spent. Fund-raising and administrative expenses were $9 million, leaving $14 million to be put into the center's vast assets. [40]

According to a March of 2007 article in Harpers Magazine by Richard Silverstein, the SPLC combats mostly impotent groups like the Nazis and the Klu Klux Klan; raising obscene amounts of money by hyping fears about their power and influence. Hence, they have become the nation's richest "civil rights" organization. In 1978, when their treasury held less than $10 million, Mr. Dees vowed they would stop fund-raising and live off interest when they hit $55 million. A decade later, the goal was upped to $100 million. The group's newsletter promised that this amount would allow it "to cease the costly and often unreliable task of fund raising."[41].."
