Area groceries stores experienced quite a run on... well... just about everything over the weekend.
Many of our facebook fans sent us pictures of shelves of bread with just a few loaves left... one sent a picture of a case of frozen dinners. It was empty. A meat case, nearly empty.
This morning I checked out a 24-hour Walmart Supercenter in Arnold. At around 6:30am there were about 10 cartons of eggs left, about 20 gallons of milk and the bread was picked over, too.
I talked to a manager who described his inventory as "wiped out." But he said it would be replenished in a matter of hours. He was right.

Where is this, Cairo?
I just went to the store here in Richmond and it was stacked to the gills as always.
Big weather system moving across US. Milk, bread, toilet paper are generally the first things to be ransacked.
St. Louis, apparently.
“If we had some ham we could have ham and eggs...if we had some eggs.”
Boy, I’m glad I don’t live in Egypt. This could NEVER happen in the U.S. (Oh, Arnold isn’t in Egypt, is it?)
This would be in and around ST Louis
Wait until the next storm comes through. Trucks should have fun getting around.......
This is weather-related?
Can we see the list before downloading it?
Ahem!...as we were saying... :-)
Have you seen the size of people who shop at Walmart? Lol, I’m big but man these guys and gals ain’t gonna starve to death.
Run on the local grocery store due to anticipation of a snow storm.
St. Louis
IT’S CALLED A “PANTRY” people.
It’s what your mom or grandma kept stocked.
Start stocking one with all the common stuff you normally buy, particularly stuff with 1-2 year shelf lives.
“Yesiree, I’ve got me enough fresh tomatoes for a couple of months! And bananas stacked up to the ceiling! Must be 50 pounds of fresh chicken in the fridge! The four of us are set!”
Looks like people are looking out for their families, and the stores are doing their best to keep up with demand. I did some food shopping today as well, since we’re expecting to get some significant ice accumulation from this storm system over the next few days. There is always food in the house, but with two teenage sons, it vanishes pretty quickly. I don’t mind being snowed in for a day or so, but ice storms are really bad news. We’ve made sure we have ample supplies of gas for the generator.
