NASA spots 54 potentially life-friendly planets ("Goldilocks zone" candidates)

WASHINGTON – An orbiting NASA telescope is finding whole new worlds of possibilities in the search for alien life, including more than 50 potential planets that appear to be in the habitable zone.

In just a year of peering out at a small slice of the galaxy, the Kepler telescope has spotted 1,235 possible planets outside our solar system. Amazingly, 54 of them are seemingly in the zone that could be hospitable to life — that is, not too hot or too cold, Kepler chief scientist William Borucki said.

Great news - can we round up the GD socialists now and let them ruin some other planet?!?

First thing we’ll have to do is kill everything that lives there — especially if they are sentient.

They’re getting closer and closer..2,000 light years away.. *-]

Six exoplanets in close orbit around far-flung star
Jason Palmer - BBC News

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12333766

A solar system including six planets around a star 2,000 light-years away has been spotted by astronomers.

The planets range between two and four-and-a-half times the radius of Earth, and between two and 13 times its mass.

Five of the planets orbit the star closer than Mercury orbits our Sun.

The find, published in Nature, is the first from the latest data release from the Kepler space telescope - which includes details of more than 1,000 additional exoplanet candidates.

The planets are likely to have atmospheres made of light gases, but also likely to be too hot to support life.

Report to the Federation Council at once. You, Sir, are guilty of advocating violation of the Prime Directive.

That’s great news for when this Islamic-scourge-plagued pebble-in-space of ours requires immediate evacuation coming sooner than you think.

I agree to a point. If it's a planet full of blondes we should give them the same treatment they give our farmers when they visit - that is to say, probe them. Then nuke them and take all their precious metals and oil.

NASA, peering out with telescopes built by people from a previous generation. People much smarter, much more driven than the current crop of NASA global warming alarmists.

After looking at the data produced by the telescopes, they retire with their islamist friends and ask allah to provide them a vehicle to get to those planets to spread islam, as they have long since lost the capability to build rockets.

Obama smiles.

After NASA came out for GW and Islam - they have zero credibility.

Planets outside this galazy appear to be what they were thousands or millions of years ago(speed of light).. if they are still there at all..

Why not search for planets in THIS galaxy..?
except probably its the same situation.. more or less..
We cannot even know much about Uranus and that planet is very very close comparatively..

What great news. We could send a probe that would take a mere 250,000 years to get there.

That ought to keep the government subsidy for playing Star Wars going for the next 75 years at least....or until the USA is so flat broke that their paychecks bounce.

.
Not to worry — we’ll find a way to travel faster than the speed of light.

I believe they are talking about planets inside our galaxy but outside our solar system.

How many orbit flare stars? How many are in multiple star systems? How many are in highly eliptical orbits?

I have severe doubts that we will find any planet in the galaxy like Earth. And I am in good company. (both Amazon links to books).

No one on Earth has the technology to see a planet in another galaxy. Any extra-terrestrial planets you hear being talked about are in the Milky-Way Galaxy (ours).
