“It’s crazy because you’re telling me what I can and cannot spend my food stamps on?” said Tamara Beverly, whose daughter receives food stamps. “If I’m the type of person that wants some chips, I should be able to buy chips with food stamps.”

“They need to not make that a law because it’s not fair to the kids. Some kids, that’s their only way of having any type of money,” said Adriell Coleman, who grew up in a household that relied on food stamps.

How about banning them from being used at any restaurant? Make them go grocery shopping, jeesh.

I am thinking that the food stamp program needs to be erased from the govt. If a state wants to give away food I have no problem with it, but the FEDS? WinTheFuture?

The foo stams biggest supporters and their lobbyists, are not the poor, as MSM would have you believe, it’s the manufacturers of the garbage. It was no axident that the King of Foo Stams was your one time Republican Presidential candidate.

They need to test every food item with a SKU number on it to make sure they can’t make meth from it.

When I was in L.A, I was shocked to see food stamps redeemed at the local Wendys.
The advertisement for them was right in the window.

Never heard of such a thing.

I’ve seen some proposals where food stamps could only purchase staples... meat, milk, cheese, bags of beans, vegetables, etc. I’d be down with that.

Food stamps should be restricted to institutional foods, and the basic items.

Any Government food ‘assistance’ should take the form of 2 MRE’s per day.

In that bill Rubio ought to add the requirement for mandatory drug tests to qualify for food stamps - or any public assistance, for that matter.

Why should the taxpayers provide some of these people "free" food if they are spending their other income on drugs? Let them make the choice.

We've all heard the stories -- true or not -- of food stamp recipients filling their grocery carts with potato chips, doughnuts, soda pop, candy and other products commonly known as junk food.

Oh brother. As if there are only second-hand friend-of-a-friend urban legends. It's a rare Californian indeed who hasn't seen a cart mostly full of junk food being paid for with food stamps.

The amount of soda, chips, dip, and ice cream I saw in a cart being bought for a Memorial Day party last year with food stamps far surpassed any amount I have ever been comfortable paying for with my own money for my own party.

I do not agree with this. Most junk food are the cheapest. They provide the most energy for the least amount of cost. People can survive on this.

Forcing the the poor to only buy “healthy” food will only cost the tax payers to pay more. The government SHOULD NOT be micromanaging ppl’s diet. If we’re to pay for food, so ppl don’t starve, its to pay for cheap food, not expensive ones

Before food stamps there was the surplus food program for indigents. Every month they got a supply of flour, grains, peanut butter, lard and sometimes sugar. You could make a lot of good food from that.
