WASHINGTON Imagine U.S. combat troops and aviators wearing body armor that fits so poorly that it's tough to position a weapon to shoot, combat uniforms with knee pads that hit around mid-shin and flight suits that make it nearly impossible to urinate while in flight.
For many female troops, it's just another day on the battlefield as they wear clothing and protective gear designed primarily for men. Each of these issues is now getting some attention from the military.

Okay — let’s get the obvious lines out of the way:
- Do you think this body armor makes me look fat?
- But does it go with my eyeliner?
- What! no Prada combat boots?
- I really like this new layered look.
Seriously though, any of our people that go in harm’s way deserve nothing but the best in protective gear.
Why would we purposely put women in a position where such is necessary?
And...
-"I hate this helmet. It messes up my hair."
Back in the early days when we would go on U-Level 3 - meaning we had to wear our body armor anytime we stepped outside, we used to make jokes like that. "But it makes me look fat." "But it wrinkles my shirts."
Prolonged periods of U-Level 3 used to annoy everyone, though.
So sometimes we took the plates out of our vests...
It's an all-volunteer military these days.
And civilians accomanying them also do this voluntarily.
The people who want Western Civilization to give up and stop defending itself are the people who think putting women into combat is a step in the right direction.
Good! War is bad. And we should try to not do it anymore. Train and prepare for it, but avoid it as much as possible.
"Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum."
Granted some women have been allowed in MOSs that pevious generations weren't, but at the same time there were front lines in WWII.
This is a different kind of war from WWII. Where's the front line?
Body armor has had to be worn by everybody on base at times during the days of heavy incoming fire.
Body armor must be worn when going through the red zone in armored convoys from one base to another or on helicopters doing the same because we *have* been shot at.
We complain mightily about what a pain that body armor is, but when the mortars and rockets are landing, or when we're on the road never knowing where a sniper or an IED might be lurking, we're glad to have it.
This goes equally for both genders.
If the base is so dangerous that women should wear body armor to serve on one, maybe women should not be on such bases.
I say war is bad. I say we should avoid war. What that means is that we should prepare, we should build weapons, we should have a clear foreign policy so that no one "stumbles" into a war. And if war comes, let us win it.
The Left says a lot of the above, but they mean it differently. They say war is bad. They say we should avoid war. What that means is that we should not spend money on defense. We should give in to all foreign powers -- and if war comes, we should try to lose.
I think women in combat helps society decide that losing the war is the moral choice so that the killing stops. The Left likes this idea. I do not.
Thank you for your concern.
I've been on these bases for seven years.
I made the decision.
I'm allowed to make those decisions because I come from a free country.
I don't need FReepers I have never met making my decisions for me. There is no evidence that such people are better informed on these issues than I. In fact, quite the contrary.
I do not regret my decisions.
Have a nice day.
My favorite from a SF Member who looked like she slathered her regular make up on with a paint brush and roller -

Yes, but the ‘average’ female soldier doesn’t quite resemble the ‘Female Warriors’ of movie and video game fame.
Like, when is the last time a TV or movie cop/lawyer/etc etc show had an ‘unattractive woman, or really (human size) obese person’ be the ‘victim’ in the lead in crimes?
Inevitably it is some ‘good looking chick’ that meets her demise.
