Sarah Palin Reportedly Quits Bus Tour Halfway Through
TPM ^ | June 22, 2011 | Jillian Rayfield

Former half-term Gov. Sarah Palin has reportedly packed in her bus tour...halfway through.

Real Clear Politics is reporting that Palin and her family have returned to Alaska from their "One Nation" bus tour, despite tentatively scheduled stops in Iowa and South Carolina.

From Scott Conroy at RCP:

Though Palin and her staff never announced a timeline for the remaining legs of her trip, aides had drafted preliminary itineraries that would have taken her through the Midwest and Southeast at some point this month. But those travel blueprints are now in limbo, RCP has learned, as Palin and her family have reverted to the friendly confines of summertime Alaska, where the skies are currently alight for over 19 hours a day and the Bristol Bay salmon fishing season is nearing its peak.

Palin's intent to visit Iowa and South Carolina, as well as one stop in New Hampshire, caused some speculation that she was starting to get serious about a run for president in 2012.

The bus tour was launched over Memorial Day weekend, and was particularly scrutinized after one event in Boston where Palin badly flubbed the story behind Paul Revere's ride.

I didn't say I disagreed.

In my opinion, what you said was unacceptably rude, and beneath the dignity of most FReepers.

“If she’s elected (and I hope that she is) there will be pray to...er, FOR President Palin threads every day.”

Maybe she has come down from Heaven to save us, but I think it would be news to her as well. I pray for her safety and success, but if reactions here are illustrative, there’s not going to be much of an election on the conservative side that this country’s founders would recognize. I didn’t even criticize her, but was accused of it. How are people going to handle any kind of difference on the issues, even between her and who she’d choose for running mate?

IMO she is gracefully exiting the spotlight so as not to take anymore attention away from other Repub candidates.

Yes, I'm sure that's it.

And it simply could be the press has it wrong and her aids haven’t been snubbed in any way. As she says, she owes them nothing. And as THEY THEMSELVES have reported she planned her bus tour of Iowa to take advantage of the premier of The Undefeated. If they press doesn’t know they just make stuff up. The fact that some people are still fooled regardless of how many examples we have from all areas of American life (not just politics) continues to amaze me.

Meaningless article. Since the writer is lying about Sarah “flubbing” Paul Revere’s ride, she is probably lying about this “tentantive” and “unannounced” schedule.

How would she know what the schedule was?

I’m loving this... they must be trippin’ all over themselves wondering what her next move will be.

I just hope they have to rush up to Bristol Bay...the mosquitoes must be just *lovely* this time of year. :D

That’s right. We buy our license and have to keep it current or lose it. Besides fishing is in his blood just like every native Alaskan. I don’t care if they are Drs, lawyers or whatever. When fishing season is open, it’s the only thing that matters, it’s in the blood.

Perhaps his intent when he set out was not to warn the Redcoats, but he in fact did warn or inform them (I'm not sure of the reason for quibbling over that word, a warning is not necessarily meant to be helpful), if you take Revere at his word.

"When I got there, out started six officers on horseback and ordered me to dismount. One of them, who appeared to have the command, examined me, where I came from and what my name was. I told him. He asked me if I was an express. I answered in the affirmative. He demanded what time I left Boston. I told him, and added that their troops had catched aground in passing the river, and that there would be five hundred Americans there in a short time, for I had alarmed the country all the way up. He immediately rode towards those who stopped us, when all five of them came down upon a full gallop. One of them, whom I afterwards found to be a Major Mitchel, of the 5th Regiment, clapped his pistol to my head, called me by name and told me he was going to ask me some questions, and if I did not give him true answers, he would blow my brains out. He then asked me similar questions to those above." - Paul Revere

We were not yet at war, and Revere may have wanted to avoid all out war by warning the Redcoats that we were prepared, while also delaying any Redcoat advance long enough that our side really would be prepared. Sarah's answer was accurate.

Your own defense of Sarah shows that her statement was a total gaffe. Revere's statement to the British was not a warning to the British, and it is absurd to say so. It's no different than a scene in a movie where the hero is caught and says "reinforcements will be here any minute". In Revere's own words, he was warning the colonists of the approach of the British. Even if you want to take Revere's words to the British officer as a warning, that was not the purpose of his ride.

Whether based on Longfellow or not, the gist of Paul Revere's Ride is that he warned the colonists of the approach of the British. It is really sad to see so many of you defend her on this gaffe. It's not the worst gaffe I've ever heard, but a gaffe nonetheless. If Biden had made the same statement you'd be all over him.

Glad that you’re easily amused. I explained above to another poster that it would be good since we’ve already had one Republican debate with the declared candidates. I’ll defer to your longer presence here if you can illustrate with examples why it’s determinative on this thread. As it is now, it’s just an ad hominem, as I see it.
